All LED Indoor Grow- Quantum Boards vs AutoCob's

There's nothing janky about Sedan's nugs. Have you grown anything like his yet?

For the op, how close did you run your QB and COB lights?

Did dimming the LEDs make it possible to keep the emitters closer?

Thanks in advance!

:leaf:

I maintain a "range" if you will 12-18" depending on the plants reactions. Dimming allowed me to stop stunting growth on my plants if not I would have had to change the lights (QB) for being too much for the spaces they were in. The COB's are run softer and can get closer but I follow the same range for them and again there is nothing set in stone you need to see how the plants react it's that simple. If getting Uber close to your plants is what you want for whatever reason just keep playing with the dimming and you close you are until you find how close you can get without harming your plants or their growth.

Just my $0.02

fuckin crackhead!! I can totally picture that and it's kinda funny lookin in my head!! But for the nerve damage part.

forgot to mention, if you have that extract info handy then that's awesome, if not don't go our of your way, I don't mind at all doing my own searches and research. I am disabled and I am a professional student.

LOL it was funny man good memories and has made for one hell of an inside joke with a couple of friends who were present at the time.

I have not forgotten about the recipe for the vape juice will dig around for it if not I have another solution to get you the info will pm............

damn!! now those are an example of the trees I don't want to grow!! Nice but not for me. Plus, like I mentioned, I am partly on a time crunch here against the clock with my friend.

I was already thinking last night and when typing it tonight I never mentioned ethanol, and for a sublingual, it would be the tits!! The best for a distillation, my uncle told me about that 35 years ago, he built a homemade still from a pressure cooker. Not sure if you know what a soxhlet is but it's like a still but except the distillate comes back down into the collector, the material is in a chamber above the collector, the solvent chamber never boils dry, it is recycled and distills over and over forever if left to it's own devices.

There's an old weird hippie in Az on youtube that has a video and it decarboxylates as it extracts, rather than a 2 step extract and then decarb. He has to evap the acetone but if ethanol was the solvent, then no evap needed, not sure about vaping that though. Better for an ointment or sublingual or ingestion.

I got some minor nerve damage right hand, has totally ruined my typing career, so I know exactly what you mean there. I would do anything to get it back and it's trivial.

I had asked about the sips because the footprint is similar to my aerobuckets. And I am just getting used to this indoor stuff with space constraints and such. Plus I haven't worked with any of these strains yet so I have zero experience with judging when I should stop vegging and flip or suffer the results much as your sativas pictured above. If I weren't in such a hurry to get a large quantity in a hurry to make some kind of extract or oil, I would just take my time and play with it and learn it as I go. I will try at least 5, I think technically I could fit several more in there, but moving shit around would become increasingly difficult. Can you give me a ballpark guesstimate on height before flipping? I think I have all indica or indica dominant, of course.

Sorry man, I feel like I am dragging you offtopic, maybe I should take this private??
I don't do ball parks man sorry. Not my thing. There's too many variables from one grow to the next even if two people are using the same of everything, and there's a lot to do with the genetics you use and the ability and experience of the grower. As you gain more experience you will learn how to gauge yield for your abilities. I have a set minimum in my head (per plant) depending on strain, whether it's auto or photo, and how long of a veg, what type of medium, size of containers, etc.

I know that's not the answer you were looking for but just being honest. I'm still learning and have a long way to go, but under a certain amount on certain plants would be a waste to me and I am no longer as shy about culling plants out not up to par when need be. I still hate doing it but sometimes it's necessary. I have a plant who will probably get the chop this week in veg. She was to be for a breeding project but I am not happy with her vigor etc and refuse to breed her, and with the plants I have on hand cutting one out is no big deal, plus I have more seeds. The current run of auto's, I took out a runt and trashed it too. Not going to waste time space and energy anymore on plants that are weak. Only the strong will survive in this garden.

Now while I don't disagree with brother @OneHitDone on his recommendation for your 5x5, please keep in mind the number I gave you (4-5) was specifically if you were going to run 5 gallon SIP's, I'm sorry but (9) plants in sip's in a 5x5 would be too much and they would get out of control. I think there is a balance in how much space you give plants to grow out, and sometimes giving less plants more space can still equal or surpass adding more and everyone being crammed in. You will need to experiment with this but remember the PM with my veg closet pic when it had the 4 SIP's? And those plants were vegged for less than a month, how would 9 of those fit in a 9x9 and they were not by any means my largest SIP plants...........

Again this is all just my opinion, but you did ask for it :bigjoint:

Ok so for tonight's update, hope everyone has had a good weekend. I have a VERY busy week ahead as far as the grow goes, and just wanted to get a head start tonight. I can always stream Game of Thrones lol........still way behind from the current season anyways.

I mixed DIRT!!! Yes not getting into the specifics of measurements and stuff because honestly some of the amendments I just eyeball for the amount of medium I see. However I will say what I used: Pro-Mix BX, Ocean Forest, Happy Frog, Tupur, Dr. Earth Organic soil, Azos, Mykos, Oyster Shell (ground), Kelp, and Happy Frog Fruit and Flower dry fert. I have not used the Pro Mix before but used a similar product from another brand with the same mix and had great results. Hopefully Uncle Jim's sends my worm order tomorrow and it arrives mid-end of the week. I will also be throwing down cover crop seed on the new pots when they get setup this week.

I had not watered in a couple of days so all the pots were nice and dry and light. They drank A LOT of water tonight and everyone was fed as well except the Hubba Bubba Smelliscope which got tap water only after being transplanted from their #1's into #3's of the new soil mix. I am not sure yet if they will get larger pots or not. There's a cut off point with the auto's where more medium doesn't necessarily mean more yields but this strain is suppose to yield well so I want to be sure I do not short change myself.

Also moved my Wonder Woman cut, and the Doggie Dreams seedlings that were in solo cups into #1's of the new soil mix. The cloner got a fresh rez tonight too. The SBA cuts look like shit and are all yellow mean while the GG#4 cuts are trucking along, no roots yet but been less than a week. We will see how this goes. The GG#4 cut I had tried to root straight into the coco was trashed today, taking too long and looking too weak.

Anyhow here's a few pics from tonight, the one further back of both tents was the most recent and taken after I finished tonight, everything else was taken prior to beginning any work.

Thanks for checking in
:peace:

sorry for the misunderstanding, I thought I tried to be clear, but obviously I wasn't. I had asked about your sips only because I use 5 gal buckets also and was curious as to footprint and overall plant size. I don't have sips, I run aeroponics, but a 5 gal bucket is a 5 gal bucket the world 'round.

At this point, with so much empty space in the tent waiting on plants to veg so I can flip and sex, I will be able to pretty much test both theories, one on the way to the other. If I find that I am getting too crowded, I can back off and I have found my comfort zone. 9 in flower may be too, much, however, it might work for a sort of perpetual. Kinda like the @StinkBud system of perpetual harvest on a 9 week rotation, except without the rail systems. 3 buckets in and 3 out every 3 weeks. I think I just convinced myself to work towards that end and see if I can make it work with not too much hassle or lots and lots or time, effort, energy, and backbreaking labor. But still, I have to work my way up and see if that gets too crowded or how to work out the plant size issues before flipping. It'll take me a while before I even have 5 buckets in there at once. My first and only harvest so far was one single plant in all that giant space, seemed so wasted. I started a bunch but of the few that survived, I ended up with only one quality female and I'm not so certain of her quality. The 1K will determine if I'm keeping her. I still have 9 that need sexing, they are young seedlings yet. Well, a few are fast and big but I wouldn't bet I have too many females, I have already flipped 2 or 3, it'll be another week or more before I know.

Maybe you should actually try it before you go talking shit about the technique, eh?
I kinda did and it's in my sig, one man's opinion and experience so offering it up

9 is golden bro even with 4-5 week veg. Especially with heavy defoliation like you do. Isn't the idea to pack the canopy with heavy bud laden branches? :hump:

You'd be the only one who ever mentioned that problem, out of easily a dozen people I've watched grow vertically.

Makes me wonder what you were doing differently...

Like I wrote man not trying to argue I was just being specific on how many in SIP's like i have done before. You have seen seen all my SIP plants in the past can barely fit (2) in one of my oversized 3x3's there's just no way I could do 9 and have proper space unless I flipped a lot earlier than I like to and had smaller plants which again defeats the purpose to me even if smaller it's still more work because it's 9. Why would I double my plant count but cut the size in half, basically doubling my work for the same yields.

what's wrong with the QB's evil??????...................just catching up, read some sad stuff that I won't repeat.................one step at a time grower , all the best! seriously.
No worries brother it's my reality and healthy for me to speak of it.

As for the QB's there's nothing wrong with them I just prefer the adjustability the single COB units provide not being one entire fixture and "for me" that works better given all the different strains I have going on. Also I did not like the 4K QB that spectrum with that light was doing weird stuff to my plants. But no complaints on the 3K light i had in the flower tent.

It's very simple brother, I use what works best for me in my situation and overall for me the COB's work better than the QB.

what is it like 10-12 weeks bean<>to cut?

These should be 65-70 days from seed. The Hubba Bubba are suppose to get big so excited about those. A little disappointed on the Skywalker and their size and also not sure what they will yield as taking forever to swell up. We will see. One of the SW reminds me of my grandma because it smells like straight up grape fruit lol.

evil did you have the HLG boards?

I see the qb288: 288 diodes. max v~54.4 /152.6 @ 3000Ma(per board)
qb304: 304 diodes. max v~115.1/161.1 @ 1600ma(per board)

to me it sounds like one is a some % better option, and about $16 bucks cheaper.

Yes I had the HLG boards, all of mine were the 288 diodes. I have zero experience with the 304 boards sorry :P
