Should be about 1/3 since they're only pulling a little over 200w. Bright as hell at 5000K. They're a little warmer than the 4000K COBs but I can put my hand on the heat sinks without a problem.
 
Next serious question at this point-Cost?( to build-/Buy) If I can go just as bright(spectrum) for 1/3 Electric-No brainer!!-
 
Take a look a northerngrowlights.com. I have 2 Quantum boards for a 2x4x5 tent and that will be quite sufficient for veg. I would think they're more comparable to a 400w than 600w MH

Just a lux / foot candle android app. Crude, but effective for light intensity. I used it to set the dimmer for the panels based on the readings at the canopy (an optimistic label for 5 plants this size) under the COBs. Here are the spectrums for the panels at different temps. After I recover from the initial cost of setting things up I'll see about investing in better meters. Right now, I'll use the plants and whatever I can cobble together as my guides. I figure if I get relatively even readings at the canopy, and the plants aren't showing signs of too much or too little light, I'm good.

One other thing ... I may have overstated the relative power of the boards vs the COBs just a bit ... I was running the COBs without reflectors or lenses and with a reflector, the cobs at 1400ma are nearly as intense as the panels at 1050ma.

I'll just toss this in here for funzies:

I put 2 of my COBs (55w ea) in the closet at the ends of my 400w HPS for supplemental lighting during flower. My plants turned toward the COBs overnight.

I find it rather interesting that the plants seem to prefer the much lower watt COBs over 400w HPS. 6 of these is going to be crazy in my smallish grow space.

If anyone wants the link to where I got them, I'd be more than happy to post it. The guy that makes them lives in RI too, I like to support the small guy.

I'd use duct tape and wrap those pots. You don't want light getting to their roots.

That's due to the plants responding to the blue spectrum in the COB LED lights. HPS has very little blue. When I ran mixed bulbs, the plants hated the HPS so much I quit using them at all lol

That's the goal here. lol

I'm only leaving the HPS right now due to being about half way through flower with a group of autos. Following suggestion from folks with way more experience than myself with these exact lights and auto's. Judging by how these girls are reacting, the change over might go quicker than expected. I'm completely sold on LED. :bigjoint:

I seriously can't wait to get that cool tube, ducting and extra fans out of there.

Ummmmm ... that sort of defeats the whole principle of air pruning doesn't it? Root Pouches are pretty thick ... I don't think there's much risk, but thanks for the thought :)
 
After raising the light, burn seems to have stopped, and they seem happy again, back middle one was a little dry and wilted, pot was pretty light...woops,,, drinking alot more than before...watered it, bounced right back up within a few hours, amazing!!!, reminds me of a hydrangea. i knew i shoulda watered that one yesterday lol

Let them get nice n dry and light, then water until you get 10% runoff, this to leach any excess nutes so they don't build up.

yea growing in fox farm ocean forest with 25% more perlite added, ive been letting em dry out before watering, and always water till 10-20% runoff to prevent salt buildup, checking ppm's of runoff, should i be filtering the runoff water through a coffee filter before i check ppm/ec of runoff water?, or can i do it straight outa the tray, i feel like the soil mixed in the runoff might be screwing up my ppm readings "raising them", anyone know if i should be filtering it or not?

my little hubbabubbasmelloscope seed will be grown in FFOF and 30% perlite...that is whenever she GETS here. I have no patience.

I check Wilmas water PH before watering (6.5), and check ph of her soil (6.0). Now, what is checking runoff and what is ppm/ec? More to check? More probes or meters?

Easy, another MA grower. going to be ordering 4x cxm22 3500 80 cri cobs for my small 2x4 x 4 bloom tent, and a clu48 1212 5000k for a small 2x2 veg room.

Growing in roots organic soil. probably going to mainline but we will see how it plays out. popped an amnesia lemon x unknown cross from my last grow 3 years ago. also a saphire OG and Honneybell from HSO that were gifted as freebies from another MA grower.

pics are of the Amnesia lemon. shes been topped for 4 mains as of today. currently they are all under a 2 bulb t8.

hot soil is cooking now with kelp meal, fish bone meal, crab meal, azomite, oystershell, and lots of EWC. thinking about getting some lobster compost from Coast of maine as well to blend in... Roots organic base.

Flowering will be in 7 gallon fabric pots.

happy growing.
