Messed up, now I have N toxicity 4 weeks in to flower - can anyone help?

Hi Guys,

I've messed up. This is my first grow and I will certainly know for my 2nd that more is not better.... My plants had been doing fine in my flood and drain system running an EC of 1.0 and pH 5.8. They're under 2 x 600W HPS + 300W CFL.

When they started flowering I switched to hesi bloom nutrient and increased the EC by 0.125 each week. I was up to 1.5 when I checked my plants this morning and discovered the signs on N toxicity, i.e. clawing and a few leaves are starting to turn down.

Can anyone advise what I can do? Unfortunately I've had to leave on a business trip this morning and will be back in 2 days. So for now I did a quick flush with RO pH balanced water and then diluted the reservoir back to EC 1.0. Would this do the trick? Or do I need to give them plain water for a few days, then go back to the original or weaker solution?

My Jack Herer plant to the left is fine with no signs, it's my Candy Kush that is showing the problems.

Any help really appreciated,
Thanks. J

Really? I thought this is a classic case of clawing from looking at pictures on the web of nitrogen toxicity. The edge of the leaves are hanging down.
You're fine. If the tips are even a little drying then back off nutes. I see no N issues. At 4 weeks it's normal for the plant to look like it's dying. The buds are getting fat now and that's the plants priority now.

When you mean the tips drying, do you mean when they start to show a bit of yellow? i.e. nute burn?

So over the next few weeks the fan leaves should start turning yellow as the plant canabalises itself?

More likely a ph problem

That doesn't mean is n tox. The leaves are not dark green., It can be overwatered, moisture stress, ph issues but not n tox. Discard that

pH is fluctuating from 5.5 to 6.2 every 24 hours. I check them and alter pH each morning. I adjust pH to 5.5 and it's nearly always 6.2 the next day. I'm waiting for my automatic pH controller to arrive early next week

7? Really? I'm groing in hydro/clay balls. I thought 5.8 was optimal for this type of grow?
7 is too high for a hydro set up.. saying that, i don't really think it's ph related.. it could be something as simple as genetics.. you say the other plant, different strain looks fine.. if the only thing that's going on is the ends of the leaves are dropping, but over all growth and everything else looks good, plants are green and healthy and buds seem to be growing, i'd not really worry too much about it tbh.. keep an eye on it, if it gets any worse or the plants seem to be effected in any other way, then i'd start to be a bit more concernted..

OK Great. Guys - thanks so much for the responses, it's helped ease my mind a lot. I really thought the leaf drooping at the end was N toxicity. It's been a good lesson to back of the nutrients if the plants are doing great, which they seem to be.

I'll keep an eye on things.

Hi Guys. I just got back and went straight to check on my babies. The plant on the left is still looking fine. It's a Jack Herer which will take a few extra weeks to flower over the one on the right which is a fast flowering Candy Kush.

The plant on the right, still doesn't look well - what do you guys think?

This is week 5 starting today, I thought the buds would be a bit more advanced.

I was thinking of emptying out the nutrient reservoir and starting with brand new RO water and nutrients.

How will you react to a real problem? There is nothing out of the ordinary with this plant, relax.Let nature take it's course,it's normal to fade as they get further along.

OK. Great. I didn't know, I'm new to this and learning. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
