I'm also a fan of Flo, great buzz that always buts a smile on my face.To me: the green genotipe of his old Flo.
Great read. I do believe Shortbread is from JD Short and Second Generation. JD is DJ's son and has pops genetics to work with. I have drooled over this cross since first seeing it. JD also has Blueberry Land (candyland x blueberry f4 male) and Loompa Goo (Loompa's Afgoo x blueberry f4). Plus they created Seed the People with Green Work guy and have some wild crosses using a Pink Platinum [platinum gsc x pink rose (black rose f10 x sacajawea)] and a cross called PBR (black rose f10 x C99 pineapple f5).For the person who's about to remind me this is an old thread.... okay I won't go there, lol.
BUT I was looking for a thread on DJ Short's seeds and this seemed better than the others options, so let's revive this because I don't think he's gettin much love these days, especially considering how widespread this Blueberry genetics have gotten. Anyway, on with the show.
So I've become a true fan of DJ Short's Shortbread - I grew a couple of crops last year and I have to say I and all my friends just love the results. Strangely not a lot of fans round hereon RIU as there doesn't seem to be a lot of writeups, but I highly recommend trying.
Beautiful mixture of phenotypes with some strong citrusy smell early, a little sour from the diesel, but as the buds mature and the blues and purples start to show I picked up a nice sweet undertone of blueberry, not overpowering but definitely there, and the taste was very smooth and mellow with the hint of berries and earthy goodness. All around wonderful flavors and a smoothness that everyone seemed to appreciate.
As for the grow, he seeds arrived and were beauties - dark brown mixed with OD highlights, and a few tiger stripe, seriously healthy fat beans ready to burst out of they're shells. And they did, 10 out of 10 popped, 7 females and 3 males. It was obvious right a way which should be the Stud. he towered over the other males so I kept Mr Shortbread in a bagged enclosure like a mini Martha greenhouse, totally enclosed to keep ever bit of this jizz at bay from my Shortbread girls. Although I hadn't planned on it, when I saw that I had such a beautiful healthy male and a really nice Mom pheno too, I decided I'd play around and make some seeds.
So I harvest the pollen from the big male and then and then carefully dusted a couple of the lower branches ever so gently with Mr. Shortbread's jizz then we bagged em for 3-5 day after which I unveiled and tagged them. After that it was a waiting game and they did NOT disappoint - at harvest, from just a couple dozen small buds, when the counting was done there were over 150 big fat healthy seeds.
Long and short of it, I ended up over 150 healthy seeds and I set about about planting a dozen or so and what an excellent batch it was only two phenotypes and not much varience other than one slightly taller more blueberry smelling plant, the othe shorter, more compact with hints of purple/blue buds. I believe that harvest was about 3 lbs from a dozen shortbread.
That was over a year ago and this week I took the bottle out of the fridge and decided to start another grow, and honestly I had doubts that they would still be as viable thinking they may not be in the best of shape, since I didn't go out of my way to store them carefull. So just thinking I might lose up to 35-50% So I put 42 seeds in paper towel - I was hoping to get at least 20-24 plants tops.
Well I was sure damned surprise at what happened - out of 42 seeds, how many do you think germinated after over 13 months in the fridge? Like I said I would've been happy with 2/3rd success, but I kid you not, I was blown away to fin 42 popped, EVERY SINGLE ONE!!! Now that is some fine vigor in them there DJ Short genetics (I'm not going to pat myself on the back too much, I think it's really just a great, well-bred strain, imo).
Disregard the "40 out of 42" cuz the other two popped the next day ;?)

James Bean Company Seeds has DJ Short genetics. Flo and f-13 throwback are available. If you want some wild F13 crosses, Beanhoarder @ Hemp Depot has a solid list of crosses for a very niice $$$.My favorite DJ Short strain os FLO. When I had those genetics my house was spotles. That strain has my wife so energetic that she cleans. Lol, Plus it's ability to continually produce buds is amazing. Quantity is not really my qual it's all about quality. This st strain is top shelf in my book.
Im trying to get my hands on Flo again. My mother has stage 4 terminal cancer. After 25 years of disapproval over these sacred plant. My mother finally see a the Green side of the fence. She has been using med MJ for a year and her cancer has not spread or grown. The Dr. Gave her 2 months 1 year and 3 months ago. But thanks to יהוה and His sacred plant she is still here with me today.
Point is, i think Flo would be great for her
She doesn't like the couch lock feeling and need somthing for a all day relief. So I'm looking to breed a high and create a high CBD version of Flo.
Or even F13. If any one can give me any info on were to get my hands on some of DJ Shorts genetics please lmk. Thanks
Shalum,
