we are tending towards the very cheap bought from china white led tubes for economy...

you can get really close for higher ppf and the wide beam covers a fair bit of area

microgreens takehardly any light compared to kale,lettuce, basil[a touchy plant], spinach

.....higher end are the white rigid led strips.

lol! so pretty much any light you throw at it will do the job? perhaps my low end import experiment is not really an experiment after all, its just one guy growing lettuce with a light that has been tested already that will work. while the coolness factor is gone, the hey, i'm going to actually get lettuce factor is here.

That's just the lighting requirements. That octagon could probably build out for 600 to 800. Guessing roi on the hole thing would be 4 crops if you add in your time. On lettuce that is.....

i didn't see much info on the lighting, so it looks like maybe 3 MH bulbs in a tub running vertical? any idea on what wattage they are?

Reason people are so paranoid about new stuff is hydro store owners sell garbage and try to get you to buy as much garbage as possible. If a local shop can't sell it they won't want to hear about it. And they definitely don't want their customers to know about it.


Think about this - I had a 30 minute discussion/argument about leds with a hydro shop owner, he basically said everything about manufacturer rated specifications in data sheets is bullshit and nothing does over 120 lumens/watt and no one pulls more tha. One gram per watt bla bla
Bla. Tell me all these specifics about LED lights and so much about the technical limitations of LED.

Then I walk over to the side of his shop and see Sunblaster 4' LED strips that put out 5000 lumens at $159. I ask him "hey! You have leds! What's the deal with these?!"

And he replies "oh I dunno anything about them I haven't checked them out." Ya fuckin right you lying piece of shit. Hydro shops are the worst and they sell garbage. People that think a hydro shop owner knows what he's talking about is the lost sheep

Seen this first and and know a local shop owner as well. Basically they only want to stock what a customers is already lined up to pay for and everything else is "we can order it"
I am in cali where the Humbolt Hippie attitude is live and well. They all bash powdered and liquid chem ferts and praise "orgainic" everything.
Not long ago the trend was "Peruvian Gold" products. I asked the shop owner why he like those so well and recommended them so highly - he said "Application Rate" lol Gotta poor that shit on to get any benefit from it :lol:

Contact a commercial lighting manufacturer that sells to farms and they are pressed to be more legit and actually be able to provide meaningful information to their clients to keep a good reputation.

ihave photos of greens under bars of different r and b, r b w, and r b w configurations, tubes[white 3500k,and panels[ purples]
my bro has been harvest leaves off the same chard for 8 months..the kale under the panels look like shrubbery

Ask him to grow out a "buttercrunch" lettuce to full head size to give us some perspective of the power ;)

How much were the bars h- hot many did he buy?

How do we trust Chinese specs aren't lies? Also doesnt manufacturing process determine output efficiency? Don't these guys just take the efficiency from the data sheet and use that instead of actually testing their products?

Cheap LED to grow nutrition is a huge area. I'm hoping the bridgelux or Samsung strips will be the best and cheapest option.

I picked up something similar, the wall watts are 22-23 per 4 foot light, i can give you a LM rating if you tell me how you would like to see it. (1 light, how many inched above the LM meter). They tell me they are about 2500 lm.

this is off topic a bit, but i finished (mostly) my dutch bucket with coco grow area.

I am still waiting on a couple more lights.

if ordered another case of these lights would anyone be interested in some of the case?

they come in cases of 50

my other input is that possibly salad greens do not need the extra oomph that cannabis does and

a. we may get away with just using red and blue..one may look for the best $ per w

b.the other thing is that i am not willing to donate any of the cobs i am getting for salad greens [yet]no matter how noble it is..
