Well not everyone is TRAINED in it .... if the think they can just try it out then they are fucked. You do need a qualified person to do this. But you do need to be able have some sort of baseline with the doc.... little bit of trust.
Don't let any anybody do it

I did not ask for help for years. I substituted being a workaholic for years. It worked ok but not perfect, but I did not want the stigma of a PTSD diagnosis to interfere with myself and my family. It has been extremely tough over the years. My children are now raised and on their own. Because of additional health issues along with PTSD, I can not longer work. Since I don't have anything to fill my time, PTSD has gotten alot worse quickly. I did finally seek help and treatment. It is beginning to help but going through the past is extremely difficult. I read something in this thread about firearms. I have always been a firearm fanatic and own several. My understanding is you do have the right to own firearms even with a PTSD diagnoses as long as you can handle finances and have not attempted to hurt yourself or others. They deem not being able to handle your finances a reason to disarm you as well. If your PTSD gets to the point that you can not handle it on your own....do not hesitate to ask for help. I am rated at 70% PTSD by the VA....Hope this helps.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and many other mental health problems.

Thats very interesting thank you, I’m going to read up on it.

The best thing I found with doing this was the psychiatrist (yes it had to be a real mental doctor)
Had to be someone you can connect with like.... ummm.... fuck me how do ya explain....ummm trusty with your personal shit.... if you think the doctor is a total tool probably won't work cause you would be concentrating on mostly that. ... get what I mean.... it's not a cure but if you can LOOK AT what causes your ptsd without getting fucked up to the point you can't control yourself ... then it's a step in right direction. .... isn't it...
Ok I'm outta here

Yeah when I told my psychiatrist he was alarmed and told me to never do any kind of trauma recollection with anybody who has essentially less than 7-8 years university. I'm following his advice.
My shrink doesn't have time for talk therapy. I know I'll need to pay for that

Nothing wrong with that, so long as it's aimed in the 'right' direction....

I agree. Opposed to the opposite and bottling it up and exploding one day. Its just my family catches it sometimes.

Its not violent outburst. Its hard to explain. I get to pacing and having a spell. The wife knows to leave me alone but she is the type that wants to follow me around asking if I am ok instead of letting me be for a little while. I go outside when it happens now. I live on a river and I go sit and skip rocks and chill for a while.

Its hard to do that in Walmart or somewhere. That is a trigger for me. Large numbers of people.

I had a job where I spent a lot of time around doctors and psychiatrist. My opinion of them is not very high after some of the stuff I have seen. Shady stuff. May just be a product of American health system. This after going through a few and spending over a year building trust.

I would say that one I could trust would be rare. I was talking to one through the mental health system at the VA. My trust was broken and I was called a liar. I never went back.

Like I said, never been diagnosed with it.

I have outburst and get angry sometimes. For no apparent reason. I sometimes pace the floor and get nervous. Things like that.

I don't think it can be willed away. It might be possible. Mind over matter and all.

I exercise, eat right, drink plenty of water. Meditate daily, sometimes for a couple hours in the middle of nowhere.

I try to count to 10 in my mind before saying something when I get like that.

Here is a hollow where I have a deer stand. I sometimes go sit for hours in silence even if I am not hunting.
If you havent been diagnosed the shut the fuck up. I think i might have cancer and have symptoms of cancer but fuck getting diagnosed right? i must have cancer. You cannot diagnose yourself, you are absolutely not qualified to do so nor interpret the DSM-V or even the ICD-10.

It happens. She made a claim about me. Nothing major and nothing serious. I told her she was wrong and she disagreed. Didn't outright say the word liar. The same thing in my eyes.

I have had good results from both the CBT therapy program at the VA and also from Skywalker OG.
Looks cool like retraining your initial thought to be going to good thought way rather than the shitty road.... or am I missing the point?

I'm more qualified than you think.

Wow what a rude attitude.

Why would I not qualify to think meet the criteria?

I guess being molested before I could even talk doesn't count? I guess seeing and holding friends as they died doesn't count? Being robbed at gun point as a teenager doesn't count? Seeing and helping my father in car wrecks as a kid and seeing horrible shit including dead kids doesn't count?

All I said is I meet the criteria.

All my post were kind of opening up to people that are in a similar situation than mine and exploring the possibility of having ptsd.

Glad you had luck out of the VA. I haven't. They tend to want to over medicate and I cant use cannabis so it is not an option.
