Harvest question: drying

I want to dry-rack my bud as opposed to hang-drying it.

Will cutting the buds off the stem rather than hang-drying them by a big stem have a negative effect on it? what's the difference?

bin drying this way since 2008, per the medical grow bible. I dont like the "hanging" plant technique. I use one of those drying racks in an atmos controlled closet tent and have no issues

They will probably just dry a little faster. I've found these final stages to be challenging but necessary. Patience is good during this time
Good luck

I prefer the paper bag method. Cut the buds off trim what you need to and fill it two inches deep. Fold the bag up and set it somewhere that has a decent temp (like 75) give the bag a light shake once a day. In seven or so days nice evenly dried buds come out to get jarred. Never had mold or any other issues never had to worry with rh either

I've done both and prefer to hang my buds ...but that's also due to the quantity I dry at once ....and flat spots by laying them down on racks but that's no big deal ....I'm a hanger I like a slow dry ...GL
second the slower dry. also, if you are unlucky enough to be raped by cybernetic aliens (borg aka spider mites), the mites will crawl up to the cut end of the branch and die of starvation. take that you miserable fucking bastards!!!

I like to use paper bags as an in between step from hanging to jarring when the buds are drying unevenly. Does just as you say.

You can put that sticky trap goo (tanglefoot) on the top end of the branch and the hanging line and the mites will all get stuck there.

I'm usually drying anywhere from 12 to 24 plants. If you need to I try and pick up those heavy duty yard clipping paper bags the have in some home and garden sections of grocery stores or Walmart

My exact method cause I like to start my cure wetter so il go into paper bags after dry ...it's simple to dump them put to breath that way if needed .....hang ,,paper bags ,,,then cure is my technique .....I also do a quick rough trim before I hang then tidy them up before they hit the cure containers

The only thing that bothers me is the resin gland loss on the bag and from the extra handling.

But the pile in the bag seems to make nice dense buds so I keep wanting to do it like you are saying regularly.

I will split a plant up and compare one of these harvests.

I dont like the racks lol i used to hate turning buds every day.

I'll go for a hang dry 65f/50rh 7-10 days depending on strain then ill just jar it up as long as it dont sweat. I don't even like to throw bovedas in untill 2-3 weeks after cure

I don't understand why people think they should hang up their plants. Once a branch/bud is separated from the mother plant there is no movement within that part. I read that some think the resin travels to the branch ends when hung up. Wrong.

I suggest you harvest and trim at the same time. Trimming off the small sugar leaves is the most time-consuming part of harvesting. These sugar leaves start to curl up the minute they are separated from the plant. That makes them much more difficult to remove. Takes me on average 45 minutes to harvest a plant if done immediately. 2 - 2 1/2 hours if the plant has been hung up.

Remember, there is no reason to hang 'em and it only makes trimming harder.

Good luck, BigSteve.
