These notions of all out bans on burkas are rediculous. Where would we draw the line?
Amish and Mennonite wemon wear bonnets, nuns wear veils and i assume many still remain celibate. Are these practices also considered oppressive? Where would the line be between over dressing and being considered a danger or oppressed, or under dressing and being considered a slut or a ho. Haven't women been abused on both sides of the aisle on this one?
Sure, I would agree in some cases, like a court of law full face coverings may impede in legal proceedings. But would also bet that in time these traditions will become less an less common. When it comes down to it I don't think anybody has the right to tell others to wear.
