All COB Users - Lettuce Grow Challenge!!

have you tried different tent temps for this lettuce? i just wonder if you started seedlings at say 55 to 60f and never let them get above 68 to 70f how they might do? i just know my best outdoor lettuce has been the colder years here in spring.this years crop sucked bad and it got hot faster than normal,plus i got a bit of a late start.

I am aware that most lettuce prefers a cooler temp range. That is why I am using a variety specifically bread for hot house cultivation. These plants have seen temp to the tripple digits in my greenhouse with no ill effects
I am testing on the tolerances of real world usage conditions and am not interested in something that "works in the lab"
I am starting to see that within probably a week you will know what a light source is doing to lettuce plants

This is disheartening, tbh. I was hoping to get a light built for a box of herbs and greens using the citizen 1212 driven really soft. It's theoretically simple to get even spread and it should need only modest amounts of power. My goal is to get a box for herbs/greens and a tent for peppers and maybe some tomatoes. I thought it would be easier to start with the box, but I might be wrong.

Do you guys have experience with peppers and tomatoes under cobs? I'm getting nervous about them responding the same way. How bout herbs? I've dreamt about this for a long time, but I don't want to invest if I can't be pretty certain that it will work. Links?

I live close to the Arctic, so it's indoor or nothing. Well, maybe I can squeeze three months of summer out of my balcony, but it's hit or miss lol.

Havent try tomatoes but my peppers did not do well under cobs.

That's not good... Just moved some canna seedlings under a cxb3590 3500k CD @1400mA and they seem to love it. Which cob did you use? I could really use some bonchis brighten up my place lol.

That was the whole intent of this thread was to have as many people out there using Cobs (or any led) try growing different things besides Cannabis so we can see what is going to work as a true Metal Halide or HPS replacement.
So far I don't see it happening with Cob's. I think a discrete diode panel with a "secret sauce" recipe is going to be required.
I could be way off by wondering if the spectral dip around 500nm is the cause of some of these formation issues in greens

Wonder if http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut1500 would help. One or two diods per cob at highest output.

That is something I too have been wondering.
Someone with the components, proper light measuring tools and resources would need to dedicate some time to this.
Then of course, real world testing with plants under them.
What is just a guess is trying to get the output of each bandwidth proper without appropriate meters. Needs to be tested as a assembled fixture

we plan to have some lettuce/whatever greens under nichia cobs....so far the leds we feel are an HID replacement at less than or around
1/2 the wattage

Come on guys and gals, I know you have some extra rockwool cubes, rapid rooters, germination mix and all that laying around. Grab yourself a pack of bib or romaine lettuce on your way out of Wally World and sprout a few up so the rest of the growing word can see how well / if cobs are up to task for food production.

Ok, I have been doubly challenged by Robin to do this. Im in. I'll do 4 total 2 romaine, and 2 of some other kind, i don't remember what it is. 1 of each will go under t5 and the other 2 will go under a blend of 3000k and 4000k Gen 7 Vero 29's. I start them in rockwool and they will go from seed to plate. This will be a full aeroponic grow. it will be fun to see what happens.
