The far red thread

To my understanding it still falls under the "Emerson Effect" category. Technological advances just allow us to see more data and reactions, expanding the scope of the effect. Same principles involved.
Do we have data showing that the effect is actively influencing cannabis metabolism? The older data is based on algae and in cdg's citation it's heliantus. Does the theory predict that the mechanism would apply across species?
 
Do you have deep red in your main lights?
The ones I have are only 730nm, however I see now that the Emerson2 panels have both 660nm and 730nm...


I bumped up my usage of the Far Red 730 to 2 hours after lights out... so I am on a 14/10 schedule, and far red comes on as soon as the lights go out.. I'm on day 8 of flowering from the flip and have a ton of stretch, but doesn't seem that the plants are getting ready to flower. I'm going to give it about 1 more week and if they don't all pop, then I am going to lower the daylight to 13/11.

The emerson effect and phytochrome state are two different things.
 
The way your using 730 nm.
For flower triggering?

How so?

Im testing whether Far Red can in fact give you 2 extra hours of sunlight (14/10) vs 12/12 standard schedule. Theory suggests that running it 2 hours after a 14/10 will still flower the plant. This is what I am testing...

How does any of that have to do with the emerson effect which is a separate thing?
 
Using it as a flower initiator to change phytochrome state only requires 5 minutes after lights out and it's best to start at 12/12 until budset then up the schedule then reduce the schedule at the end.

Do you have a scientific resource for that statement? Ive read anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours afterwords... but not 1 reputable source. Why would you reduce the amount of daylight hours to 12/12? then whats the purpose of the Far Red since cannabis already flowers at this schedule? that makes no sense... I mean I have heard about, and used diminishing light regiments, and its not economically feasible. So what would using Far red on a 12/12 benefit? the whole theory is to be able to extend the normal daylight hours by making the plant "think" the night is 12 hours long when in reality its only 10.

I have used @captainmorgan light schedule for my last three grows with great success, It works and works well.
Right, I get that cannabis flowers at a 12/12 schedule... but why use Far Red then?

I don't disagree with you guys that a plant will flower at 12/12, but that is not what I am testing. I am testing the theory that with Far red you can flower with a 14/10. Different things we are talking about here... still phytochrome manipulation, but a different application.

Not different at all, my flower schedule is 12/12 to start,13.5/10.5 for the bulk of flower time and 12/12 to finish.
 
Ya ice mud, I use it also. He's just saying that you should start the first week or so at 12/12 to get your plants flowering naturally, then switch to far red, which is exactly what I do.
