I have a 9 day old autoflower seedling. I have her in a solo cup with happy frog soil. I been giving ph water only. I have under 2 26w 6500k cfls. She is only about 1inch tall. What am I doing wrong? I know she should be bigger than that at 9 days.

i'm not a dirt guy but is that happy frog loaded with nutes? mine have been very light feeders so far
i just tried 4 autos. i start mine in a little aero unit and then transplant to hempy buckets. they didnt mind at all being transplanted. i know that alot of people say to never transplant but mine haven't minded at all

If you are using a couple cfls like that you need to make sure you use reflectors. But growth will still be kinda slow under that...

Cfls are generally pretty terrible, you need to use reflectors and they have about a 3 - 6 inch effective range.

Autos are vigorous, they hit the ground running you need to give them enough light to grow. If you stall them now they won't amount to much as you have a very limited veg period. Mine get 90watts of led from sprout.

I'd go so far as to say the veg period for autos is the most important part of the grow.

Do you have a light meter? If you can measure at the level of the plants try to get 20,000-25,000 flux.

Should I just place her under my mars hydro 300w? Or is that too much light?
hmm maybe try that at 18-24" and see how that works.

I would probably start higher and see how temps are.

Edit: Just looked it up after typing this..... this is what the site says. :P

Hanging Distance: Veg Growth: 18’’-24’’ Flower Bloom: 12’’-24''

I have a home made light still learning about distance and temps...

I`d second that by saying, getting auto`s to veg is the most important part of the grow, as they are keen to flower, long days help if you struggle with plant size then find some that have more sativa in them as they`ll grow more during flowering and still give you an ok size plant

I don`t like to feed autos much at all till they get to a good size

start 5 to 10 in a block of rockwall when the 1st 3 start getting their roots to the bottom cut up the rockwall by then you`ll have 3 to 8 we call "keepers" and normally 2 to 6 you can stuff in one pot together

My mate calls them small ones "timmy's" as they are the special ones, auto`s are more likely to be retarded then your average plant

Sometimes its better to just pot up 5 in a big pot and pull out the 3 or 4 smallest ones

depends what your paying for your seeds and how many runts you seem to get

I have an auto now it's a mini me like 9" now 27-28 days and probably more Rudy genes than the other phenos.

.....I figured out what it's problem was.

It hates heat and wants it 75F or less.... I got it down to 73F and the whole plant changed... darker green.

Hmm funny as around 70f is where water holds the most O2

but it makes sense rudy evolved in colder parts of china and russia right ?

but they vegged like champs outside when it was like 30c but saying that the rootzone would still be at 20c or so even in the summer here.

Have you tried GA3 on them to make them veg more ? I`ve done it before it works on auto`s and even flowering photos but it can cause hermies and if you over do it, the plant will grow a meter in under a week, lol

but starts looking like a Dr Greenspoon, takes a few weeks or so for it to fill out again

I think the roots and the ph changed with the colder temps.....I am still trying to figure out this DIY set up I created.

Other phenos just take off no problem same seeds, this type here is short and very sensitive to anything.

I have some calcium nitrate coming....I think my ferts were way off during the early growth phase.

Plus this Coco thing I have never done before and it was a learning experience compared to just soil..

But clearly at 73F it started using Nitrogen. It was like a switch turned on. you could watch it lol!

well that`s bound to happen, you get unstable indica/sativa hybrids never mind when people start mixing some dwarf low rider in too

all autos seem to have a 1 in 100 to 1 in 3 chance of being tiny, depends on the breeder and strain I guess.

Yeah temp drop can cause ph my water when I butt it up and it gets around a week to stabilize before the plants get it

I know getting down to 16c at night is best to get a full colour change in flower like if you want your purps to show off its purps

but normally vegging plants like it more as you get closer to 30c but autos are a bit backwards, lol

yeah these breeders have strong Rudy genes and all their plants grow "up to" 24-34"

I did have a male ( same pheno ) spread pollen a week ago and I tried to spread some manually, but the only calyx looks like it's been seeded at all is the pre flowers atm. The rest are still going along white as can be....
