Speaking of cancer, you gonna drink 15 more coke zeros today? The money does have to come from somewhere or nowhere, that is the point.
What we were saying all along is that minimum wage workers were not suddenly going to become well off if a minimum wage was instituted. Many of us said the businesses would automate, eliminate jobs, etc. But you would hear nothing of that.
Now, supposedly we both want the same thing but you guys keep fucking it up with good intentions.
We need more jobs in America, not less. Which means less taxation, less regulation and less legislation. It means handing a bone out to the producers in this country and to stop demonizing good business owners.
Liberalism is like a cancer on society. It attacks the police which are the protectors and it attacks the producers which are the providers and it benefits the parasites. It destroys rather than creates.
The barriers faced by the poor go beyond not having a college education. Nobody said raising the minimum wage would put people working at McD's in the middle class. I think its fair to say that neither party has done much to improve the conditions faced by the poor after Reagan stripped away the programs put in place in the 50's, 60's and 70's. The welfare reform acts passed in the 80's and 90's and signed by Repub and Dem presidents alike made life harder on low wage workers.i've found that going to college and getting an education in something that interests you and has a demand for said education is the best way to get ahead. community colleges have pretty good deals for those that are unemployed and more deals if you are a minority(sorry white people-you have no idea what it's like to be poor)
Not intended to be a factual statement. They are not getting a little help, they are getting hurt. That is the issue here.
It literally takes 4 minutes and $50 to start a business. You are unremittingly wrong about everything. That has been forever. The great thing is that you actually can start your own business although the government keeps making it harder.
Most people want to work 9-5 and somehow make bank president someday without understanding the work involved in between.
I have an idea. How about an employee learn enough job skills to get promoted or find a better paying job. That is typically how it has been since the beginning. You are not supposed to earn 100,000 dollars per year because you have been the french fry guy for 40+ years on the job. It does not work that way.The barriers faced by the poor go beyond not having a college education. Nobody said raising the minimum wage would put people working at McD's in the middle class. What is easily refuted are claims that Seattle's new minimum wage has hurt the poor.
Great advice -- go to college. The party that would help people do that is the Democratic Party who support subsidizing tuition-free college.
"Using other methods, the researchers found that the minimum wage hike actually caused total weekly earnings to drop — by as much as $5.22 a week.”"That's your truthy-stuff-sorta-fact-like justified belief. Not a fact. No issue here. Facts were reported faithfully in the WP article. Not harmed a little help.

Had no idea that $11 an hour worked out to $100k a year. Must be doing retard math again.I have an idea. How about an employee learn enough job skills to get promoted or find a better paying job. You want to ignore how it works (get promoted or find a better paying job) and replace it with something that looks like a giant union... Oh wait...
Guess what? Few people stay in minimum wage jobs. People are learning job skills that get them into better jobs. Oh wait...I have an idea. being from detroit, this made me lol so hard. good one man, the democrats helped the poor in detroit so much, by creating the atmosphere that choked the city almost out of existence. i dunno what's worse, someone extolling the virtues of the democratic party, or someone who doesn't know the parties work for the same people.Great advice -- go to college. The party that would help people do that is the Democratic Party who support subsidizing tuition-free college and raise minimum wages. The two are not connected.
So that's all you got out of the article? Who has problems with reading comprehension? You took a balanced article and stripped out the one statistic that sided with you. You turned it into another one of your truthy-stuff-fact-like number to support your belief."Using other methods, the researchers found that the minimum wage hike actually caused total weekly earnings to drop — by as much as $5.22 a week.”"
Your lack of reading comprehension does not make you smarter. Just sayin.... Or were those ideological blinders that made you miss it?
Oh look. Another white supremacist pretending to be from Detroit and tries to claim that Democrats ruined that city.being from detroit, this made me lol so hard. good one man, the democrats helped the poor in detroit so much, by creating the atmosphere that choked the city almost out of existence. i dunno what's worse, someone extolling the virtues of the democratic party, or someone who doesn't know the parties work for the same people.
Translation: The collapse of the automobile industry had nothing to do with the decline of Detroit. It was all Democratic Party ineptitude.being from detroit, this made me lol so hard. good one man, the democrats helped the poor in detroit so much, by creating the atmosphere that choked the city almost out of existence. i dunno what's worse, someone extolling the virtues of the democratic party, or someone who doesn't know the parties work for the same people.
Yes, that is exactly what you did as well. They may be better off, they may be worse off. But even if they are better off it is $250 bucks a year. It isnt going to change anyones lifestyle. So that's all you got out of the article? Who has problems with reading comprehension? Why did you scrub shit off if pools for so long when you claim that you could have been making bank by inspecting dog houses instead?Yes, that is exactly what you did as well. However, that job that would have paid a kid $12.50 and got him a start in the business world is no longer available. The government has now forbidden it. But you always have been a prohibitionist so this would make you happy.
So that kid gets no job, gets no future... Thanks Fogdog and Obama and Seattle.
Guess what? You are wrong, and it is offensive to the rest of us. If your average Joe had some kind of protection, and voice, maybe the fight would be easier? Maybe this is why labor unions are so great? Every year, my wage goes up $1.25, and this increase doesn't bankrupt anyone! $45 an hour total package for most, and companies are EXPANDING!I have an idea. Lol, capitalism and bad trade deals sent those jobs away... You are right. The minimum wage is just a wage floor. It's not a living wage. A living wage for everybody who works full time is an honorable goal. I don't see how enacting a higher minimum wage now creates a barrier to doing the other.Honestly, I am a big proponent of a living wage (actually, I am a proponent of people quitting their jobs and the whole commercial system we have in favor of something different all together), but I have been trying to get people to see that it takes more than a wage increase, since, at best, that also means a cost of living rise as inflation and sellers charge more for increased labor costs. Or, as the OPs references say, job hours dropping, or even jobs being lost to overseas or computerized set ups.
I know I don't know the answer, but I know what isn't...
We live in a culture where entertainers and middle men make millions, doctors who care are scarce (and can't make enough because they're trying to help people) as most people go into it for the money, and people prefer to pay an extra $300 more on a brand name something than omething of equal or maybe better quality that isn't well known... in the hood and in the trailer park... people will spend more on their rides than on their homes.
And as someone has mentioned, the new generation is entitled as shit and wants to go from doing keg stands to making 6 figures in a board room (or whatever).
Yeah, many changes need to happen to the work place... a living wage included... as well as a better work ethic...
