hi all I am now about to start my first ever rdwc grow and I am running the complete range of shogun nutrients and I have the feed chart from the manufacturer and supplier and they recommend using full strength all the way through what do you experienced guys think? Am I going to burn them ? Shal I run 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4 strength nutes ? I will be growing 6 blue cheese cuttings strict from the propigator hope you guys can help thanks

Awesome that you want to try out rdwc. There are some learning curves and you need to be handy, but the rewards imo are all worth it. Make sure you have an ec (ppm) and ph meter. I don't measure by the bottle, but mix the nutes to obtain a specific ec and ph. Using the .500 scale I'm around 300 early, 600-700 mid through much of flower then back down to 400-500 late in flower. Also be sure to use a sterilizer or a beneficial to control root issues. If a chiller is in your budget, you really need one to be perpetually successful.

Thanks for the replies guys really happy that I have got some experienced guys on board firstly I am also very excited to start my first RDWC after reading so much good about it and I need all the help I can get at the minute yes I do have a PPM meter and P H meter I will add a picture of the nutrient feed chart for you to have a look at in my opinion all of the EC levels are way too high I just want to start at say 1/4 strength and see where my EC level is and adjust accordingly please let me know what you would do? thanks. And yes I have just bought a Halia HC 100 water chiller yesterday to keep my temps perfect and I was hoping to run pytyoff throughout grow to help combat root rot but I am unsure whether I can actually use this with the nutrients I am running thanks

Some nutrient solutions are designed for these types of systems. Looks like you are in the UK. I've never heard of that line before, but it could be correct for certain hydro systems. Seems high though for rdwc. Pythoff is a sterilizer, so you will have to stay on top of it to make sure nothing is growing, but a chiller helps immensely. What kind of a rdwc system is it?

Thanks for the reply yep I'm in the uk and it is a fairly new nutrient line I did speak to the place that I bought it from and told them that I am using it in rdwc and ask about the strength to use and they told me to keep to the full strength now I'm not sure if they said that because they don't know or just because they want to sell more of it or maybe they where correct and I am ok to use at there recommended dosage, what do you think ? And yes I do have a chiller to run with the system but just wanted something as a backup to combat the root rot. And it's a homemade system 6 x 20litre pots including a res with 1 1/2" pipes to a 3/4" return into a 1000lph pump into the Hailia hc 100 chiller back to the res

I completely agree with @blackforest 's ppm numbers he gave you as a reference, I run the same levels. If you are around those levels you should be fine, then you can adjust from there depending on how your plant reacts.

I just can't seem to get a yeild with the net, first time no net 8 1/2 dry in 70 days, second time 5 1/2 off 3 now about a week left on these and see what comes of it

I have only just started dwc and ran about 0.3ec for seedling then increased to 0.5-0.8 through early veg, then to 1-1.25ec late veg. Early flower now and running 1.3-1.4 and everything seems to be going good.

Start low and watch what the EC and PH do over a period of a week and adjust accordingly is what I do. I Also watch the plants and particularly the leaf tips for signs of burning but by keeping things on the down low I rarely see that. Don't get caught in the "I'll add more to get bigger plants" mentality, most do and quickly find that's not how it works lol. I run pretty much the same as kiwi and all seems good. I have also had great success with running hydroguard just kind of pricey.

How often do you add hydro guard?

Well that was a long time ago lol. I’m sure i follow the directions or maybe half as preventative. I only used it for a year then it was not accessible in Canada. Built a chiller after that and never looked back ;).
