What are the best soils to use?!

Okay, so I am on a budget and I am looking for some recommendations on soils to use. I am not creating my own as I do not have time and place. I am trying to avoid Miracle Grow soils as they are loaded with time released nutrients and salts that just make the buds taste and smell nasty (learned that from personal experience a few years ago). I am planning on doing about 20 plants outdoors this year and I need something that is basic but has some good stuff in it like peat moss and microbes that are beneficial. I appreciate the feedback :) I will be posting this in my grow journal if you wish to follow :D
I have 2 bags of FoxFarms Ocean brand so far but it's pricey as I have to buy it online since it is not sold around here. I am buying the soil online and am looking for cheap or free shipping as I am on a budget :p

I am old fashion ,I hand mix my soil,,I use 2 gallon bucket of compost manure 2 gallon bucket of sand, 1 gallon of pete moss, and 4 gallons of Pennington professional potting soil,, compost ,1.27 per bag 50 pnd bag,,,Penneinton pro bout 12,00 for big bag,,sand 2.00 for 50 pnd,,,pete moss 11-12 dollars for big bag,,I have a plastic tout I pour it in then mix it up,, the cow poo is good source of P,K for later the pete moss holds some moisture,,the sand is sharp and keeps it from packing in and helps to provide drainage,,The Pennington Pro mix is set up to feed a plant for 6 months,,,,I give only water and have big healthy plants,,I also have my own compost from yard waste and house hold stuff,,you do not have to blow a bunch of money to grow,,grow with in your budget and you will have a good grow,,best wishes mate

under 40 bucks for what I labeled,,I start ine in pete moss pellets,,then they go into red beer cups,,,I grow them in there until 24 inches or around that height,,then trans plant into 1 gallon temp planters,, they will go to 3 gallons before done if needed,,and I have tried the miricale grow potting soil ,,I like the Pennington better is darker and looks and feels better in hand to me,,but I have had great result and never given any nutrients

i tried the pellet way. no good for me . so i went the airstone in a blacked out mason jar. , but i go from there to the square qt. pots using coco, then to 1 gal if they are next to go . and str8 to 3 gal if there is room in bloom. but all chill for 3 to 4 weeks in 400 watt. mh veg box 18/6. and off to my 1000 watt hps flower where they get their stretch on ., and either scrogged or lst. started 3/1/16 with this . and been trying to get a perpetual grow going second pic. is 18 days later. as you see two went to 3 gal rest 1 gal or square pic 3 is day 30. so its was time to flip.i decided 4/10 to do a scrog instead of vert grow and this last pic is from yesterday. just 3 weeks in flower

I`ve heard a lot good about Ocean Forest Fox Farm, You can use this soil for about 3 weeks without having to use any nutrient
I have 2 bags 1.5cu ft each ready to go, but I want to add to it and I also plan on buying a lot more soil as I have 17 feminized seedlings that I'm doing outdoors this year. The additional soil I want to purchase will be either fox farms ocean/happy frog mix or I may buy plain organic potting soil and build upon that along with mixing in the fox farms I already have as I will be combining all my soils and additives in a large bin and mixing everything together. I'm planning on adding worm castings, perlite, sphagnum peat moss together. I also want to add in blood and bone meal, more so the blood meal as N is more important for vegetative, P provides for root development and immunity. I'm a little worried about going with this as I don't want to make the soil too 'hot' and burn my plants up.

I'm a big fan of espoma organic potting mix with mycos, it has very little nutes and a decent amount of perlite. My local greenhouse carries it so I'm sure it can be found

In my opinion, avoid bagged "all in one" soils. This includes soils such as roots organics, as well as Fox farm. The reason these aren't preferred are as follows; I have never gotten a pre mixed bag of soil that didn't have bugs in it. This is a big deal. Bugs are not only very obnoxious, but can completely ruin your crop. Also, when you use these charged soils, you have no idea how many of which nutrients are in them, and they are often rather inconsistent. when you throw a small plant into these soils you are sending it into a highly charged mix and saying "well... good luck" many small plants will get nutrient burn from these mixes. not only that, but these mixes are usually high in N,P, as well as K. which is not what you want during veg.

In my opinion, it is best to go Soilless. Get a bag that is *mostly* inert. most have a couple of niceties like mycos and other goodies, which are good. These mediums are made up of peat moss or coco coir. My suggestion is to get a bag of sunshine ADVANCED #4. It has a few goodies and is a mix of peat moss and coco giving you the best of both worlds. To be honest its just much easier to be able to control how much food your plant gets instead of hoping the bag you have does a good job. charged soils are the lazy and indifferent mans media.

I tend to agree,,a pre packaged soil seems fast and easy,,But do just a bit of research on soil,,,,,it is why I build my own,,I suppose if you had a huge grow pre mixed would seem inviting,,,But I will still mix my own ,, am old farm hand so a little hard work never bothers me,,,,, if there is no work the reward will not be that good,,,,,, as not much in life good comes for free,,,,,Building a good medium or soil to plant in is not hard,,the soil is very important ,,you can just pour additives to feed but if you build your soil,,Your plants will thrive and flourish is one thing to grow is another to have the plants flourish in there environment,,,, Soil is the house your plant lives in and is full of microbes and micro organism's,,these things eat and produce waste which greatly helps the soil,,so having a soil they do well in means your plant does well is happiness between the two,,the more the bacteria and so on thrive the more the plant will,,feeds and added Nutrient are a fantastic bonus,,make a good soil ,,the correct soil and ph and mix of mediums and lime,,,,,, will make a plant able to take in more of the nutrients,,,,,in booth the soil and feed you use,,,,,,so like a home start with the foundation,,,,,,, a strong foundation makes a good build platform for your plants,,,,,Growing takes time and patience,,,,, so if you must wait and be patient make sure you did the first job well,,,,,,,and you will have great success,,,and fewer issues along the way as you will not be encountering ,,so many issues,,,,& corrections or deficiency's,,,,,,,,,,,keep it simple,,, simplicity

I have 6cu ft of Fox Farms Ocean Forest mix on the way cheap! And I picked up this soil a little bit ago from my local garden store. This soil seems promising. It was 6.99 plus tax each bag contains 1cu ft. I hiked a 2 miles carrying 2cu ft of soil lol

I used fox farms ocean forest , I mix in 1 cup of domolite lime and add Happy Frog organic dry nutes per bag instructions for ffof, and mix it all in a wheelbarrow, into the grow sacks,, and then water only the whole ride,, have done this 2 times now, pulled 8 ounces from 200 watts of cree cobs in a 3x2 foot grow space,, makes it pretty simple to just carry water to the grow box,, and raise the light, but then again I like easy,, hahaha

the one thing that im finding . with my tap water. its a low ppm only 060. so the trace elements like cal.and mag are just not there. same with RO water you will have to supplement for those
