Cloning help...I suck at cloning. Help!

I have cloned my plants twice so far; with some success. I've been using a heating mat, propagation trays, root shooters, and a humidity dome. It works, but I find that I lose quite a few of my plants and they take a long time to "bounce back" after I put them into soil.

Then, I decided to try something different. I grabbed an Aerogarden 3 from a thrift store for $6, and everything seemed to be working, so I decided to give it a try. Here's the thread I started in the Aerogaarden forum:

http://rollitup.org/t/used-aerogarden-3-does-this-look-right-to-you.901317/

It's been 5 days since I put the cuttings in the Aerogarden and I don't see any signs of roots yet; is that something to be concerned about? Is there anything I can do to move the process along or fix any problems?

Here's some pics from this morning:

Are you using rooting hormones? Clonex, dip n grow, aloe, etc?
Good question, I forgot to include that in my original post. I used Rootech cloning gel. Is there anything I can put in the water to stimulate root growth?

Trim them leaves so the plant concentrates on root developement
Good call, some of the lower leaves were looking a bit droopier than the top ones, so I just lopped them off. Thanks.

I use superthrive seems to work well for me.

I dialed in a 144 Turbo Kloner once....
had to put it on a short cycle timer to keep the water cooler (1 min on 3 min off)
had to remove and replace 5 gals of water every 4 days (holds 13 gals - keeps pathogens down so they don't look like they start wilting in 7 days)
different varieties took different times to root....
most were 8-13 days.
roots like a handfull of spaghetti!

Jesus! Why are they so big? You are making more work for the plant to root.

Remember that the stomata should be absorbing 90% humidity (they aren't) and this energy goes into the end of the stem to build roots. Yours are a mile down. Plus you need to clip the leaves to reduce transpiration..

Very jazzy for a cloner shit I use a propagator CFL bulb that it,I think if your haveing problems check the heat from that light is is too hot,I never had success with heating mats no need for em.neglect em after first week or so they will take.

I found but cutting take far better with not that much light on the edge of the lights or just a small cfl ,I think you are makeing work hard for your self with this set up,But I'm prob just old school ,you just need a warm room a old house lamp ,with a small CFL bulb in it,propagator few soil plugs or cubes ,I use cubes I root in 7 to 14 days but not once in ages have my clones not been 100% healthy with good white roots, and every one rooted, but the mothers are super healthy, key to good cloneing.Im not saying this kinda set up does not have a use but,I use it for peppers ,really has a talk peace when where stoned.and after the first week of misting twice a day for a week then every other day, neglect them they respond well to a it of neglect, they will root ,but when there ready .

You can dilute the root tech gel with water and that will act as a hormone solution. Good luck

as soon as i got some ph down and started keepi.g my water at 5.5 or 6 ive been getting 100 percent, no humidity dome and as far as the bounceback ive noticed (using an aero cloner setup) that letting a ton of roots grow isnt always best,i transplant when there are a lot of good 3 inch roots with healthy off shoots of more roots off the main ones .. if that makes sence... ive let some roots get 6 or 7 inches long and just monsters and they never bounced back after transplant ... lowering the ph did wonders for me and takes a lot less time now

also lighting i dont use much gotta make sure them rootsarnt getting light (thats where i messed up on my DIY cloner) but what u got looks like thats notta issue .. also make them 45 degree cuts at the node and i run a blade up it to split the 45 about an inch , a give the top layer of the stem a good brush with a razor ...

ok first . there is some very shitty info . not many good post at all ! first step to root a good clone . snip a branch off of a health plant . any size branch . can be 2 inches or 1 foot don't matter .. you can cut it any way you want 45/ angel or a stoner cut to high to see ! or .straight . it does NOT make any difference . next step . trim the leafs in half . they should only be half the size after trimmed. your trying to grow only roots at this point . ok then put it into your hydro cloner about half inch of the stem sticking out of the rooter able to make contact with the water . run the cloner 24/7 under a small ( 40 watt or so any color bulb or best yet a purple led works best . a regular bulb is just fine . light intensity should be very minimum . I suggest 18/6 lights .work best put the bulb about 4 or 5 foot above . weak light .. and throw that damn water heater mat into the trash ! you need to keep the water at under 70f . best to have it at 60f . NO rooting hormones .NO nutrients . NO humidity mats . not required running hydro . have a small fan running 24/7 to prevent any power mildew mold . in about 10 days check them they may be ready to transfer into soil or other medium . should get a 99.9 success rate . water not distilled . can be tap or bottled. never distilled water ever . ph needs to be at 5 . those pics you posted are forming root rot . if you can trim those and put them back in do so . or they will dye

why I suggest never running cloner gels or solutions or powers . it slows down the clone time. the clone does not form roots to find nutrients because it does not need to its already on the stem . there is a lot of science behind what I am saying . if the plant has to struggle to find its too it needs to form roots .

running that aerogarden pump 24 7 will probably get ur water temps super high .. it could be different from what i built but that why i run it 15 on and 15min off
