Not about water, but you think its cheaper to make your own peat soilless with pertalite or just keep buying sunshine #4? Bags of sunshine run me about 31-32 bucks a bail for 3.8.Tap water. I aerate the water for a day before adding it to the resi.

Hi Hyroot, I really like the wicking container setup that you've made I was wondering, do you ever water the soil from the top, or do you only water through the wicking net pot by filling through the pipe? Now I've made 3 of these. And I'm making 4 more this weekend but with home depot buckets. I will be adding air stones / pumps to all sip's.

Mr. Hyroot,
Your SIP with air stones in the res is the best idea I've seen so far (just my opinion). I'm using homemade worm castings in living soil too, but I haven't gotten a recipe dialed in yet. I'm having trouble with moisture uniformity in large pots and this seems to solve that issue. How do you support the weight of a 15 gal suspended over the res though?
I only water through the wicking pot. The wicking pot is submerged in water in a resi. Then the pvc is just used by pouring water down the tube to add water to the resi. Then there's a 1 inch air gap between the water and the top pot.Hi Hyroot, I really like the wicking container setup that you've made I was wondering, do you ever water the soil from the top, or do you only water through the wicking net pot by filling through the pipe?

Hyroot,
You could, theoretically, add teas to the top of the soil in addition, right?
