How do I quick dry for a sample?

I'd only take the small "under buds" from the bottom of the branches...never the whole branch; let the better buds have time to mature.
And like SPLFreak808 says; only do this out of needing a smoke.

View attachment 3620200 Hola amigos. Today one of the girls was ready to come down. Don't shoot me but how do I test the strain while being fresh? Fresh as of today. It's my 1st ever harvest and this is the first branch I've ever trimmed. No fancy sheers just a pair of scissors
According to my seed guy "The hairs don't always completely change color with this strain. The crystals are pretty milky so it's ok to take it down. I've been growing this strain for 4 years and this is the typical outcome". My other plants have a lot of pink and orange hairs but they are another strain. I'll update this thread after official harvest. Thank you to the people who helped me with the info.
Ok so I'm a bit confused, first you said it's your first grow, your first harvest and your first trim. Now you say you've been growing this strain for four years and the hairs don't change colour or curl up and withdrawal back into the calyx. Sorry but it's either you have grown before or you haven't, harvested or haven't, first trim or 20th.
Your buds are immature and it's obvious to anyone who's ever grown a plant to maturity, you'll still get high but you definitely chopped it early and I seriously doubt you have been growing for four years. Nothing to be ashamed of, everyone's cut early before but trying to cover with a rubbish excuse would be pretty embarrassing for you when you get called on it.

you can vaporize weed fresh off the plant. i've done it several times just for fun. it's a lot different though and the first several hits will taste like warm moist air.

otherwise for smoking you can speed dry by putting a nug in a very warm area like in a utility closet by a furnace. you can also do the microwave on low power.

i dont recommend doing any of these, you will not get the true flavor. You cannot get a true test unless you dry it right. You will get high though. IMO the best thing to do when you're growing is always have back up buds or hash you can smoke. I still like buying/trading other strains my friends grow for variety though. there is no best strain when you have variety.

No not all strains fade during the end of flower. Some stay green all the way through. It really depends a lot on whether you give Nutes all the way through harvest or give some sort of flush.
this one was mostly green at harvest.
still pretty green.

I chopped that plant about 2 weeks ago. The ones that are taking longer to finish are fading a lot. I also haven't given them Nutes in 3 days and hit them pretty hard with clearex.
as you can see these ones are fading. But it's mostly because I'm not giving them any more Nutes until I chop them so they're cannibalizing themselves. The branch Pictures definitely wasn't finished. You can tell by the pistils, the calyx structure, and the fact that it has not filled out at all. But the fact that the leaves are green doesn't really tell you much.

That's pretty cool, I just hadn't seen that in any plant I've ever dealt with, like not even just cannabis, but any single harvest plant, amazing gals they is!

I said he's been growing it for years. Go back and look

Amigos I decided to leave her alone and let dry the correct way. I didn't wanna pay for smoke when harvest is so close but I did it outta respect for the plants. I was wrong for trying to rush something I've been waiting for 3 and half months for.

Chop up what you want to sample, turn your oven to 170ish and throw it on a plate for 40 mins to an hour, don't forget after you do this that you really should dry the slow way even though this rocks

Me and wifey sample every new strain

There is so much water still in there it's a waste to even try to smoke it for a few days
After two days hanging I was able to smoke a bud. I don't believe people who say flushing isn't nessaceary because I could taste nutes when I exhaled. So glad I only took the one branch down because the rest are now getting nothing but h2o for another week then it's time to turnout the lights.

Yeah your wrong you don't get any nutrient taste as long as you give it water the last 2-3 days before you chop it, you probably taste starch/harshnish which is from the chlorophyll that isn't broke down yet, I always believed that flush bs too, until my last crop, taste comes from curing, if it's not cured it will taste like shit, if over dry it, the chlorophyll will get trapped in there and taste like shit.

Turn the lights out, and how are you judging them by being done do you have a scope?

2 days is nothing, even at a least there is still no way it's even close to being cured so of course it's going to taste like shit, a full cure takes at least 2-3 months to get the full effect and tastes.
If you really think a week is going to take months of nutrients out of a plant your sadly mistaken, if so I've got some snake oil to sell you, you will yield min 3 lbs per plant in 3 day veg :)

Also why are you cutting branches off, if anything pluck a bud off(still stupid to do this as you should use a scope to check it not sampling the bud because you only hurt you yield in the end), now that plant isn't going to even grow anymore, it's going to focus on trying to heal itself from the damage you just caused it, so anything it's going to spend that week doing nothing for bud growth.

It's tedious, but if I quick dry a bud, I like to break it up a bit, put it on parchment paper on a plate, and:

Microwave for 8-10 seconds.
Transfer to freezer for 2 minutes.
Repeat until dry.

Takes a while and is tedious, but I liked the result better than the other methods I've tried. The point is to heat up and get the water jostling, trying to escape. Toss in freezer to both cool it back down, and to absorb the water vapor faster.
