You will need 200w so 5 @1050mA...you will need hlg-185-1050b (take the b version if you want to be able to dim your cobs from 10% to 100%...or a version from 50% to 100%!)
As for spread split your gbox in 4 put a cxb in the middle of each area and add the last one in the middle (or go for 4)
I was able to light a 3.5x3.5x4.5 with 4 cxb3590 @1400mA (I need more lights cause 238gr under 200w is ok pretty nice in fact but in a 3.5x3.5 it is not that much)

It was true....I used hps for more than 16 years now...only 600hps and 400mh...a few t5, cfl 125/250/300w, led "full shitty spectrum"...only hype for most...but cobs and particularly cree cxb3590...it is an other world...I don't want those Heat Phactory Shit in my grow boxes anymore...never again
More weight with less work and better quality in less time...just look a few grow journal...most of the hps growers are around 0.7/0.8gpw in soil...most of cob ones are around 1.2/1.3 and more!

I did really well with my 400w and the only reason I'm not continuing with it is because I like the options LED provides for my space. I've got nothing against HID.

The mars type lights never did it for me. In all fairness I've never used one but just looking at those... Didn't inspire confidence. I'm thrilled led tech has come as far as it has. I was waiting to pull the trigger on led until something that made sense to me came up. COB's make sense.

Not hating just sayin.. :-)

One is a reputable co. That bins it's cobs the other is unknown quantity with no documentation at all showing spectral range, lumens per watt.. Just blanket claim of x lumens.. It's actually cheaper to just purchase quality.

Look if you lesson to me we are all growers and kind of brothers or cousins...same family same fight!
I know I live in the carebears country...lol...but it is how I feel!
So I want my "family" to be happy as I am and to grow more weight of quality buds...I am sure it took 5/7 days less than under the hps (I had 2 cuts 1 cob 1 hps...it was the first time so I tested the lights...and the buds are so hard little stones who make you stone...lol
And yes my wallet don't like this but my plants does...and I love my plants! (But I guess my wallet will appreciate the electricity bill savings the nutes savings and the fact that I use to pull 0.7/0.8gpw in soil with 600hps and now it is 1.2gpw (and I get troubles)...so 33% more weed is ok for me!...and you?

Driver efficiency increases by using the majority of the forward voltage.
The main differences are the output potential, and cobs capacity then can operate
The hlg-120-1050 is rated 120 watts and likes 4 cxb cobs
the hlg-185-1050 driver is rated 185 watts and like 5 cxb cobs
The 185 1050 is 199.5 watts and can go
5 cxb 36 volt cobs
2 72 volt cobs and 1 36 volt cob
or 4 vero 18s 29.5 volts and 2 36 volt cobs.

Keep in mine if you mix 36 and 72V cobs the 36V ones will pull 2x as much current which is not optimal
When you run in series? That's really interesting. Does it make a difference if you put the 36 at the front of back of the chain?

You could do mix of series and parallel I guess, but whats the point. Just get them the same Vf and dont make a problem thats not needed.
If you want to use extra voltage left on driver you could always add some monos, but I have never done that, and cant advise how to do it.

So what you're saying is if you ran 4 30v cobs and 2 36v cobs on the 1050 driver the 30s would pull higher than 1050ma?

Yes they would, but not a lot more, like the 72V ones would

If you're talking about cxb3590 36v vs 72v, the 72v just takes twice the voltage and half the current for the same light output.

If you ran a 36v and 72v in series you'd need 108v and each of them would pull the amps of your driver(so the 72v would be twice the watts and light of the 36v)

Another option is series-parallel. Two 72v in parallel with the 36v in series, 3 cobs for equal light output, but there's no need to complicate things really.

The 72vs are good for using less cobs on a lower amp driver and getting more value for your cob.

I use 72v 3590s on mars hydro 700mA drivers to get the same light as I would 2 36vs in series on the same driver. I also added 18v 1512s to use a bit more of the available voltage.

This is series-parallel.



The amps will be the same in a constant current driver regardless of the voltage each needs, just don't overdrive the max current of whatever leds you're using, and make sure the total voltage of your series is in range of your driver. When you start getting to parallel that's where you'll see changes in your current.

These drivers do pull slightly over rated, but that driver has a limit of 190V on the DC side. With those 6 cobs and the Vf's you listed would be too much and the driver would clamp output

Which cobs are you referring to with the 30Vf?
The vero 18s run at 29.5 and you could pick any of the 36 volt cobs to run with them.

That's 118v from the veros and 72 from the other two which puts you at 190v on the nose lol.
