Cheap cobs

I don't think the cree are that much more actually, and I really have a hard timE feeling good about buying something knowing for just a little more there was something a lot better out there.

These do say bridgelux though, that would be cool if they are good quality.

I can pickup warm or cool white ones for $7 just wondering if anyone has had any success with these. Os it worth the money?

I hear what you are saying about Cree not being that more expensive but isn't the spectrum with these better? They say generic bridgelux....who knows right?

If you could figure how how much heat they generate or how much light they put out you might be able to approximate the efficiency. That would tell you how decent it is quality wise maybe.

I have one - i ran it with some other lights, but the plant under this cob seemed to have severe stretch (probably from too much far red). I haven't used it since. I'm not 100% it was because of the light but I haven't had the chance to test it again.

What was the wattage of the one you have and how many amps to you run it?

If you want blurple maybe you could at least try an illumitex or some red and blue osram/Philips type monos

The cobs I got from China look like shit to me. I paid 50$cdn for two "good 50w" cobs with two 1500ma drivers.

I will probably get a single cxb3590 or vero to run along side one the Chinese ones to see how much better it will be

If you want to save you could just buy a cheap driver from eBay and get a cxb or vero for it

I'm thinking Vero is the way to go I'm building a dwc wardrobe cab and need about 200 watts based on the 50w/1sq ft rule... I'm not sure if I want to go HID or led both would be about the same start up price

Bonjour
This rule is not the same with quality cob...with cxb 3590 it is 30w sq/ft...not 50w...you can use 50w but 30 is full enough (I tried with 18w sq/ft and it was very nice...almost 1.2gpw!
And no doubt it is waaaay better than hps or mh...just read a few grow journals!
I use hps since 15 years...not anymore for sure...only cob now...less heat...more yield!

With hid you will need to replace bulbs every year or 1 1/2year and reflector every 3/4 years plus all the fans and vents extractor...and heat...lots of heat
With cob...minimum 50000h without changing anything and a light vent extractor is needed...no bulb replacement no reflector no heat...lots of better things (50000 is 10 years of grow non stop...this is at nominal current 2800mA for cxb 3590 and we use it @1400mA so potentially 100000H of lifetime without a big efficiency loss!)
