under those parameters I would build two 40" (about 1 meter long) heatsink bars with 4 cobs on each, and use one hlg-185H-c on each heatsink bar. (have the heatsinks go the long way, not the short way). that will give you essentially the same evenly distributed coverage.

1 heatsink, 1 hlg driver, 1 fan .... get it ?
You're rightt $700 or $920 for one less cob. I'll only be able to run at 1750mas, I wanted 2100, but I'm sure I'll be happy.
 
By next week I will have 4 CEN100-36s, 3 HLG320s, 2 HLG240s, and 4 HLG120-1050s powering my 80 square foot room. My dehumidifier throws out enough heat to kick on my mini split. Every bit counts.

pretty cool you can light your room, without needing mini-split running the whole time!

probably can turn the dehumidifier down or off when the lights are running.
 
Drivers have an efficiency just like a cob...Think about what is the other half of the efficiency percentage

Drivers and fan motors usually have the highest operating temps of any components on the build.

That's why I asked for those numbers, 'quantified', so I can do the necessary calculations. Are we just talking about a few percentage points of total wattage?
 
On which page of this thread is the parts list posted? I am hoping to order all parts to cover a 4x4 space. Any help is greatly appreciated.

okay...so I just searched Supra thread CXB3590 1500W
even tried Supra
then searched CXB3590
No luck whatsoever. I have seen Supra in this thread so I went back through it and I cannot find him in order to find that specific thread. This is crazily complicated and exhausting.

As GG pointed out, it's identical to cobs ...

eg. : HLG drivers efficiency is maximum 93-94%, the 6-7% is dissipated as heat ..

So a HLG-185H-C @94% efficiency, if maxed out (@200W) has 6% of 200W heat loss.
=> 12W of heat.

If you plan to attach your driver onto the heatsink : You should take into account that 12W of heat.
For passive cooling add 120cm² of heatsink per heat W, so 1440cm² for the previous example.
For active cooling, add 40cm² x 12 = 480cm².

Of course, drivers do have some dissipating power too (varies according to design ..), so this might be a little overkill, but I like to stay on the safe side.
