Hydroponics pH range.

Hi RiU!

I'm starting DWC hopefully today, and in preperation I was reading about the optimum pH levels for hydorponic growing. Apparently the general consensus is that the best range would be from 5.5-6.5, although now many growers have different opinions on the range (and as with everything some claim their methods are correct whilst others are not.)

When looking at a nutrient chart the best would be to keep the pH somewhat stable (although this is really hard to accomplish) at 5.8. Although when the plant uptakes nutrients then naturally the pH will drift higher and higher.

So my question arises, what is your favourite pH range? Eg. some people claim that 5.8 is the best and will religiously keep their pH there. Others adjust their pH to 5.5 and then let it swing to 6.5, whilst some stop at 6.0 and revert. Some growers even keep their pH different for vegging and different for flowering.

How about it, what are our thoughts on pH ranges? I was thinking of starting at 5.5 and drifting to 5.9.

That's what happens with my bucket I add water and nutrients then ph down to 5.5 2 days later it sits at 5.9 and remains there for the rest of the week

That's plant uptake of Nuts. Completely normal. Mother Nature does this outside, as well.

when you get to know your plants better you can start dialing in the pH for each stage. Veg and early flower likes a lower pH(5.6) while later flower likes higher pH(6.1)

in my opinion, it's best to let it drift from 5.5 to 6.1 allows each nute some time in it's own zone of optimal absorption

I was also wondering if anyone here is using GH 3-part flora series? What feeding schedule do you follow? 2.5ml of each nutrient in 1 gallon seems like A LOT for a seedling...

i used to use gh 3 part but after 5 years of side by side testing i found that gh nova or maxi series yields far better, also with the 3 part you need to find a mix that best suits the strain u run,not all plants like the same thing...anyways you may want to give the maxi 1 part grow 1 part bloom a try, itll save you money and grows killer plants..its a really cheap nutrient that works really well and in side by side tests it yields better than most other high priced nutrients out there..

lucas formula. skip the grow, just micro and bloom.

i'm using flora duo now in lucas formula. 1 part A to 3 parts B

for small seedlings, i use either 1mLmicro/2mLbloom or 2 and 4 of micro/bloom. EC about 0.2 to 0.4 ish

fwiw, I accidentally pH'd down to 5.1 when I did my nutrient change a couple days ago and while it has drifted up to 5.9 in that time, I've never seen my plants consume so much so fast. ppm's on my Hanna dropped from 520 to 480 over that time. Strain is Super Lemon Haze in DWC, Blue Planet Nutrients 3-part, CX Hydroponics Wilt Guard and Regen-a-Root, and a bit of cal-mag. This phenomena has peaked my interest enough to warrant future experimentation with pH and plant growth. In veg btw under 450w T5.
