Drones

It can get worse.

In Mindanao, Philippines, a semi-militarized national special police unit went to kill a wanted terrorist. He was a bomb maker and member of Abu Sayyaf and brother of a prominent politician in Mindanao.

After killing him and removing a finger to obtain DNA, then snapping a photo of the body, the police force found themselves outmatched by the local militia. They carried only a few rifles and a small quantity of ammunition. Most of them were killed but the finger was brought back to Manila.

Instead of collateral damage, 44 national policemen were frivolously lost in the course of the action which was for one bomb maker. The men were then glorified as martyrs and sold to the nation as impetus for intensified military involvement against the Muslim seperatists.

Now a political solution is all but ruled out and the way is paved for public acceptance of collateral damage. In other, completely unrelated news, Merica just sold a bunch of weapons to the Philippines.
The Philippines is almost a caricature of the United States, it's crazy over there.

Sounds almost like sending loads of troops to Afghanistan and Iraq and still losing the war to what are essentially cavemen.

Surprise, surprise,...

Now as of Monday, you are required to pay 5 dollars and give your name address and email to the FAA to fly drones weighing from a half to 55 pounds. Every three years.

Fines and fees if you don`t have your drone license on you at the time you are asked for one.

Of course the FAA will not let stray hands on this new revenue.

You`ll need a really small one, or really, really big one, to get passed the law.

Half pound birds hit multi-million dollar aircraft all the time and they can cause catastrophic results. Do you think registration of drones is some Bilderberg Illuminati conspiracy theory or what?

I don't think it's intentional, they prioritize targets. I've heard an official argue that even though they might kill 90% civilians in a drone strike, if they take out the target it's successful. Their reasoning being that terrorist would likely have gone on to murder more civilians doing whatever it is terrorists do than were killed in the strike which is, I'm sure so very comforting for the victims families to know..
Terrorists by nature are civilians.

Yes, cos Air Traffic Control have time to have a chat with every quadcopter pilot flying his fancy RC helicopter...

Where I live Close to an international,...it`s a problem. All the planes including Aer Lingus bus that fly over my house are under a thousand feet, most are at like 500. Not just kids, the advertisers at the beech, the traffic reports use them, delivery companies want to use them, The one`s departing can at least maneuver, the one`s on approach are gear down and dirty. Every contact on that radar has to be watched too.

If I`m watching 400 contacts flying in and around the patterns, How can I watch you ?

No, not at all, I support it. My problem is the $5 online registration paper. Every three years weather I still have one or not.

What`s wrong with registering on a website data base for free ? I did it here.

Therefore you probably live in restricted airspace, no need to communicate with the tower over it.

War has international rules, drones are a way to get rid of these rules and responsibility IMO....

When it comes to fighting between armies, there should be rules. One very important rule is the White Flag, that is surrendering. You can't negotiate surrender terms with a drone...

All wars are to kill men on both sides, to get their land and enslave their children... It's the game of the so called "noble" people...
When it's truly war, rules tend to get pushed aside quite often.

Surprisingly you make a completely valid point about human life not being as special as we make it out to be. But at the same time I can't picture someone being blown up by a missile would do any good for the world. It is like playing simcity and calling for natural disasters because we get bored lol.
So a drone strike on Hitler in 1939 wouldn't have done the world any good?

There is no registration of drones. There is registration of the Pilot, not the drone.

Other info for the ignorant.
The law states that you must keep your Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in your physical sight at all times. That means no flying far away or using GPS waypoints to automatically control the UAV. Most drones of the average size cannot be seen at more than 800 feet.

UAV's cannot be used for commercial purposes unless the pilot is licensed and permitted to fly for commercial purposes.

UAV's are not allowed to fly higher than 400 feet in altitude. MANNED aircraft legally cannot fly lower than 500 feet unless on landing or takeoff. That gives you a 100 foot cushion of error. If people follow this rule there won't be any commercial airliner crashes due to a drone being sucked into the engines. Not that that would crash the plane, but MAYYYBEEEE.
