easy way to water, collect run-off.

So im tired of taking my plants out of the grow room to the kitchen sink individually to be watered. This grow i'll be taking care of 4 mothers 12 vegging plants and 16 plants in the flower room. There has got to be an easier way of doing this. Im thinking of using dirt bags or square pots to flower, but i have no clue yet how to make an easier system to water. This is an issue Ive never seen adressed on any of the forums. Ive never seen it adressed in my grow books or anything Ive read either.
Any good methods out there?

no one has said anything because that isn`t a lot of work for the reward.just put a catch basin under them to catch the run off

Its not alot of work? You must have a better method than me. I find it takes about 3 hrs to water 9 plants and let them drain into the sink.
My other option is to put all the plants in plastic trays which collect water then dump it in a bucket. Still alot of work.

takes me about 15 to 1/2 hour to water 8 plants in 3 gallon pots. there is no method to it. i just pour 2 cups each waterby the time i`m done going around all 8 i can give 1 to 2 more cups. i dont pour it in slowly i just dump 1 cup at a time.

Ya can buy trays at the hydro store or buy a kiddie pool. Ya can water from the top and bottom. Ya can just dump 5 gallons of water in and walk away.

I am seriously cosidering gently sloping the floor, putting down luan and putting in a drain to under the house. That way I can water and let it drain. Right now, I just put large folded towels under the pots and water. Next day, i remove the towels. I only move them if i need to flush.

Interesting. However I like to saturate the soil completely so I feed 1 gallon to each plant every 3 1/2 to 4 days. Then I have to wait a bit for all the water to stop dripping before I put them back in the grow room.
It seems watering so little with no runoff would cause salt and fertiizer to contaminte the soil. Just a thought, dont know if im right only a hypothesis.

You are right. If i gave each of my plants a cup of water at a time. I would be at it all night. If i had little shit pots then yes. 3 gallon pots they are not even getting watered.

At wal*mart you can get a kitchen stink attachment that has a long (like 60') hose, made just for watering plants around the house..

if you water them and have a tray to catch it all and then let them sit in it will it mess with your humidity???

They make a drain pan that goes under a washing machine that has a drain that hooks up to a garden hose if needed or you can just add it underneath the plants to catch the runoff...

I guess thats not really what I had in mind. I also didnt add that I have to ph every gallon of water. I just thought that maby others were doing something that I wasnt. I use 7 different blooming fertalizers if you can believe that so I have to keep track of which plants are getting fed what. But if somone has a better way of watering and not making a mess and being time consuming, please let me know.

Maybe there is a way to build a canal system or channels to collect the run off into a drainage system or a vessel to toss.

Never tried it and I understand where you are coming from. I use the bath tub LOL.

Iv never ever seen anyone make watering a few plants sound sooo complicated. You could use water bottles, you could get a res (big green bucket) and a water pump with a hose. I use soil, I like to wait till they dry out and soak them as well, but I dont obsess over the run off, put some poly down, or a kiddie pool, the runoff will evaporate within hours, if it doesnt your humidity would be way to high.

Also if the water is just running right out the bottom, try mixing up your soil with a fork or something, it will help alot for the soil to hold more moisture. Same with soilless mediums like promix

I just use plastic pot trays under my 5gal soil buckets. I only water till the very beginning of runoff (you should not be watering until the water runs out freely) runoff is really not an issue for me as any water that builds up in the bottom evaporates or is absorbed by the bottom roots eventually.
