Lmao. I'm going to give it a shot . Like I said what I have been doing is working great but I don't think I need all these additives and shut and I'm paying 50$ a gallon for my grow and bloom plus 50 for my hydrogaurd plus 25 x 4 for my additives rounds out to around 250 for about 4to 5 runs just a lot of hassle prepping and shit and all the bottles , if I could just use a one part and be done that would be the shit , you say you use silica what brand I use silica blast from botinacare would that work with that line ??
 
I heat that man, v+b has everything already in the mix. I use silica blast at the moment too but will be switching to dyna protekt when it runs out, it'd a better silica and cheaper too
 
Well for someone that has run DWC for almost 7 years, I can say that for Me, I woukd never go without benny tea, ever.

Some can do it, not sure why, but I have tried it ALL. Every sterilizer out there from h2o2 to hydro sparkle.

The plants fucking LOVE the tea. It's doesn't just simply ward of bad bacteria, there is actually quite a bit of beneficial benefits.

Doing nothing though? That is a recipe for disaster IMO. The slime will FUCK your shit up in a hurry.
 
I'm still 100% for sterile but that's because I've never tried the bennies. Not saying they don't work, but throwing some chlorine in the water is much easier for me. Also keeps the equipment clean for future use after harvest. The bennies I'm assuming would die and the bad bacteria would take over inside the equipment and next time you start it up, root rot (that's how I imagine it would happen anyway)

Naw it's not like that but after every havest I clean the equiment with some water bleach . But after talking to you in the other thread I'm pretty inclined to give sterile a shot with that vegg+bloom you recommended .
 
I'll just leave a comment while in here .


after 4week without changeing res, the chlorine leaves the inside of my res "sqeeky clean"....... I mean not a bit of residue on the sides and this leaves me to believe that the insides of my pumps and pipes etc are just as clean and sqeeky :)

It really comes down to your water supply. Some water doesn't have the bacteria that causes root rot, some does.

Sterile is seductive, but just not practical for some. It has very little to nothing to do with nutrients..unless your using some kind of organics in your rez.
 
Pumps are clean as well mainliner, I just took them out for inspection to clean them after 3 runs, there was nothing on/in them. Just rinsed it off under the faucet and put them back in the system.

Edit: I take all pump filters out so there is really no where for anything bad to start brewing.

Don't use scotch Brite pads on your gear, just a brush.

Bacteria cab attach themselves and live in those tiny scratches. Labrador tests have shown certain bacteria can withstand 6x the amount of disenfectant when attached to something like that.

We use our tubing for about 6 months then chuck it :(

Great tip man! I did not know that, but luckily I've just been using some cheap sponges from the dollar store, but I have thought about using the scotch pads before so i won't do that now. I hear ya about the tubing, I wish I could reuse it for a couple years at least, but there is just no way I can even look in the tubes to see if there is build up and would never be able to tell if there is anything brewing in them. I just buy a 25' roll once every 2 grows now, it's a waste :(
 
I was researching disenfectent and cane across on article on Google scholar but couldn't find the link to it again.

I have washed tubing in bleach before but now we have around 170' of tubing in each of three rooms. when you pull 65lbs down its hard not to say "fuck this" and just replace the shit.

Same with the air stones

Right on man, if I ever do commercial again it'll be on the "disposable goods" list lol. It's too damn hard to clean them, it seems there's always some roots or something that grow down into them and I can never get it out so I just chuck em even for my personal grows. I'd rather spend the extra 20 bucks per grow then find some nasty rotten stuff floating around by reusing them that's for sure.
 
Ive only ever tried bennies and always failed.

I tried once with roots excel, roots were amazing white but the system failed. The next go i failed as high res temps, i wasnt using EWC i was adding a benifical bacteria powder similar to great white to the system which didnt seem to save the plants but the temps were top 80's. Then i made the tea wrong, i followed the recipie but i brewed at only 60oF and the bennies didnt wake and eat the mollasses, so when i added it into the system i caused myself the problems..

The last attempt, i am sure it was adding too much bennie powder as the roots were rotted when leaving the rockwall and a little slimey roots in the water, i think adding too much powder to the roots every few days caused it. I didnt use any tea, just a very strong mix of benifical poweder...

I am having one more attempted sticking to the RichRich/Heisenburg recipe, brew exactly as they say with the exact ingredients. I have a UV sterilizer on the water butt, the water comes out the RO filter into the water butt and a pump recirculates the water into a large 36w UV sterilizer for a few days before adding into the RDWC system

So this is my last go at bennies, then its going to be the HTH pool shock...
 
I still have no idea what you guys are talking about but it sure sounds complicated. I just mix some GH in some tap water in 5 gal DWC buckets and the weed grows like weeds. Slimy roots?? It must be a problem in the envoirnment, good nutes and water shouldn't cause slime. Whatever works I guess, but I still prefer the KISS method.

Sometimes I play with my roots and massage them. The coarse texture reminds me of rinsing my thick hair in my hippie days. The dynagro plants have super white roots. The GH roots can take on a little color but when I massage them it rinses right off. It's just the roots absorbing the nutes out of the nute solution. I would be bummed if they were slimy. Maybe it's a temperature thing? I still don't get it.

No it doesn't. It comes down to having enough oxygen in your nutrient solution.
