WE USE THE LATEST USA MADE LEDS BY BRIDGELUX.
Our LEDs are manufactured in the USA by Bridgelux, with improved batching for maximum output and lifespan.

Forgot that. I'm just the messenger.
1. If the above means they exclusively use Bridgelux, there would be no reason for them to say they use quality LEDs "such as" Bridgelux and Epistar.

2. If they used Bridgelux just once, the statement you're obsessed with would be true.

3. PlatinumLED's obviously deceptive practice of ripping off the name and image of a reputable Cree-using brand should be enough to give the above two points serious concern.

I don't have anything more to say. Good luck in your search.

If you want to trust a company that overtly rips off the name and image of a reputable LED brand that uses Cree diodes, that's your choice. But, it doesn't change the fact that PlatinumLED says:

This double-talk is common among LED sellers. HydroGrowLED has a reputation like Platinum's. They use a "LED Basics" page to talk about Osrams, giving the impression they use Osram. But, nowhere on their site do they say they use Osrams.

SpectrumKingLED does something like that with it's "LED 101." They make claims of being 100% more efficient than COB without actually saying that. It's more a "101 generality" in his lesson.

PlatniumLED's language sounds similar. I would definitely view it skeptically considering how they shamelessly try to get a free ride from AdvanceLED's reputation.

But, good luck with your search. I think you'll find A51 was your best value, that there's a price associated with being a needy customer.

If I didn't use A51 I would use Cree PAR38 spots/floods from Home Depot. I just harvested a plant flowered exclusively under these and was very happy with the result. I used only 20-23w/sq ft and got excellent results. I'd shoot for 30-35w/sq ft. But, it did really well underlit.
Crees is what I was originally looking for so I will check out the Advanced LED's then. Thanks for the tip.

What are you fanboys gonna do if Area 51 stops using Cree? I saw in another thread that stated that was the case. Not sure if it's true or not but we shall see pretty soon according to yet another rumor I read on here.

I'm not seeing on their website anything about Epistar. Where exactly do you see anything listed except Brisgelux? Just asking so I know whether to put you on my "Bum Scoop" list.

I think you guys should forego the virtual circle jerk and just get the real one over with. Fan boys........that's laughable.

I'm not in the LED business. I'm a hobby guy only but I do know your attitude is shit. You guys are like 6 year old girls when it comes to criticism. Get over yourself.
^^poor attitude we were just trying to help and you lashed out at us.

See this post.

You're proving to be a good example of why Jeff prefers needy customers to find a different company. You insult everyone with derogatory "fan boy" language. You make me work extra hard to persuade you that a name-ripoff might be doing other disreputable things, even overlooking the link I posted just because it's easier to expect me to post the link again.

And now you're threatening to ignore me because I might be bamboozling you when I've offered two Cree altneratives to you, and been more than patient with your needy conduct?

To deal with customers like you, Jeff would need another full-time employee. That would translate into $20-$40 more per light for the rest of us.

At this point, I think I speak for all the other A51 "fan boys." Please, buy something else. Some have to learn the hard way. Some just don't learn.

It's a matter of perspective, isn't it? You bought a light at full price like everyone else did. You now get another light at a discount like everyone else did. It's just that everyone gets the discount now.

The only way a grandfathered discount would make sense is if it applied to a grandfathered pricing schedule.

I agree with you that, in the scheme of things, tossing you 10% off would be a cheap way to validate you, avoid all this public conversation, negative publicity, etc.

But, Jeff values low-friction sales. Devoting the majority of his costs toward adding value to all his customers, not giving special strokes to those who need it. If someone's going to spend hours whining that they weren't made to feel special enough, Jeff's solution is: you need a different seller.

It's as simple as that. You didn't get gypped on anything. Every coupon I receive from the grocery store has an expiration date because it's too costly to carry the liability on the books forever (as pricing changes, etc.).

Decide what you want to do and get over it. A51 is not the company for you if you need to feel special treatment. You're getting what you expected when you received your coupon. That *is* the bottom line. If you feel like you should be grandfathered in some special way, you're going to be unhappy and told to find a company that meets your needs better.
No, no, no…

1.) Unlike any potential, new customer, I already invested hundreds of dollars on my initial purchase. That automatically separates me (and everyone else in the same boat) from the same status as new customers would garner.

2.) Part of the reason I decided to give the company my business at the time, was due to their advertised policies -including a return-customer discount. Return-customer discounts are given as an incentive for previous customers (like me) who already spent hundreds, to come back and spend hundreds more. It doesn't apply to new customers (obviously). I didn't make that policy. He did. If it was such a high-maintenance hassle for him, that he had to change that policy midstream, then why should the people who got baited by it, be disregarded?

3.) He was getting rid of inventory of last year's models by lowering the prices, so I wanted to wait for the best price and then apply the advertised return-customer policy, in addition, because I thought it was the smart thing to do.

4.) His policy changed, midstream.

5.) Now, the money that was spent on my initial purchase, means nothing in terms of incentive to make a secondary purchase. In fact, anyone gets the same price whether they already spent money with the company or not. It feels like someone cut in front of me in the line to the concert! ;) I understand that a lot of people wouldn't say anything about that. But I guess I'm not that kind of person.

Where does Platinum's website talk about anything other than Bridgelux? You made the statement numerous times, I'm just asking where I can find it. I'm starting to think you might be a "Bum Scooper".

I'll most likely go with Advanced LED anyway because of the Cree brand. I don't have anything against Bridgelux but I always hear good things about Cree.

And your point is that you invested those hundreds on the promise that you could get more for less. You are getting more for less. The only difference is that everyone else didn't have to spend more for their first light. Everyone's getting more for less. That means your getting more for less isn't as special as you thought it would be.

But, in terms of dollars, you're getting exactly what you thought you'd get. I'm sure Jeff would be happy to sell you a light at the old price, with the discount you were promised. But, I'm sure he'd rather you find a different company than to have to get to today's price through such a roundabout method.

That's all I'm saying. That's the reality of the situation. He changed his pricing model. Instead of a "frequent flier" discount, everyone gets the discounted prices. If you don't like it, consider another company. I think you'll find A51 was the better value.

Sometimes it has less to do with dollars and cents, more to do with feeling "validated" as a customer. Other companies will excel at that more than A51. A51 excels in other ways (technical, quality, price). There's a price associated with being "validated."

You just have to weigh your wants and needs and make the right choice for you.

It's as simple as that. As soon as you make it to that point, you'll be moving forward.

On Advanced LED's site the only light they have that's 100% Cree is a veg light.

You're not reading my posts. I've already said: See this post. (Maybe someone else can interpret this sentence better than I can.).

I don't care what you think of me. You seem to expect people to bend over backwards to put you on the right course. I've recommended AdvancedLED and Cree PAR38s from Home Depot (with a link to a harvest I did under those lights). I've explained how predatory practices are common in this market, giving 3-4 companies as examples. You won't read the two links (now three) I've given about Platinum's statement that they use "such as Epistar."

You probably expect me to take screenshots for you. Maybe buy a light for you? Heck, just have the light delivered to me and I'll grow your stuff for you. Anything to avoid the horrible outcome of you thinking I'm a "bum scooper." I can't bear the thought! :)

You are proving to be a very good example of why A51 desires lower-friction customers.

LOL. I post a link 3 times to the rip-off PlatinumLED's statement that they use diodes "such as epistar" and you couldn't read it. I help you out with a referral to AdvancedLED and you couldn't read that either.

And now you caught me BSing?

All i can say is: whether it's right or wrong to conduct business this way, you're a good example of why A51 prefers customers who require less hand-holding. It would cost everyone else more.

I'm already moving forward. And are you "Jeff's" spokesman on here?

I'm perfectly contented that he lowered his prices and now everyone can get a better deal than what they could get 2 years ago. Great. But, advertising a policy to get people to buy something and then switching that policy to something else….? "bait & switch" 101.

Yes, it's about the principle of the situation at this point. I can afford any light on the market. Area51 makes a great light. I already know this because I already did the research and I already spent money supporting the product. The difference is that, he got, from me, what I said I would give him -my money. I, however did not get what he said he would give me -in the manner that it was advertised. Too bad for me…? Maybe. It's yet another matter of perspective. He certainly won't be going out of business because of me. But I won't be suffering when I get a new light that's not an Area51, either.

How are you not getting the price you expected? How does today's new pricing (not based on frequent flier mileage) differ from what it would have been? Just explain that.
