Haha another old 70's hifi guy , i love it
Aint it funny how in the 70's every home had atleast a mid level hifi now nobody even knows the names you posted , Nak & denon both moved away from high end in the US but still make the high end stuff for Japan , ive got a pair of 200 watt denon monoblocks in my collection buryied somewhere & have had several Revox Turn Tables before Mcintosh started making TT's recently .
I had a quad system in the 70's where i used Altec 19's for fronts & rears , i ended up swapping out the altecs for Klipschorns which i still have in my all tube rig , looking back i shoulda kept the Altec's , Altec horns have a much smoother tone vs the Klipsch horns that need the midrange horn damped with dynamat to mellow it out .
About your Mc-2205 Amplifier & MR-78 Tuner , if the amp was stored in a dry place all it will need is to be powered up slowly with a variac to reload the transformer ,you can use a light dimmer switch & power it up slowly the same as a variac & reload the xformer yourself , i highly doubt the capacitors in a Mc amp will be dried out this soon , ive had amps much older than yours where they power up fine with no leaky capacitors .
The Mc-2205 is rated at 200 wpc but puts out over 250 wpc @8 ohms with 0.05% distortion at peak levels / which is still the benchmark in audio , the amp alone is worth between $1,500-$2,000 depending on condition of the glass face & if you still have factory double box'es , if you have the L-52 Wood cabinet for the amp the cabinet alone is worth $200 or $250 if you have the box the cabinet came in , fuk even the box'es for that era Mc gear are worth up to $150 depending on condition .
Your MR-78 tuner is still considered the best analog tuner ever made & rates right along side the Marantz 10-B model tuner , your MR-78 tuner is worth about $1,200 without the L-52 wood cabinet or packing box'es & will not need to be powered up slowly on a variac, you can plug her right in & she should light up & go , ya might need to replace some light bulbs in the meters of the amps & in the tuner panel but that should be it , the bulbs just pop right out like old style blinker bulbs for a car & are dirt cheap on ebay .
Dont let that gear just sit there man , set that shit back up & get listening again , i think you'd fall in love with hifi all over again if you set it back up , all you need is speakers & a dvd/cd player , your amp has Gain controls so you dont even need a preamp .
If your interested in selling it i can help you list it all on Audiogon.com & put about $3,000 In your pocket for the 2 Mcintosh peices .
