Soil for 300 Gallon containers?

I live in Michigan and was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap soil/soiless mix for 48 300 gallon containers? I have a budget of $63.00 per hole but somehow I feel that is a joke just looking at soil prices. I have priced cu yds of unknown quality top soil and its $25 a yard and a cu yard only equals 201 gallons. Any ideas?? I would like it to be as close to Pro Mix as possible. Also any tips on irrigation please let me know.

Price check premium potting soil by the yard with a 20% perlite mix. Mine was around $60-70yd. (nor cal)
I recommend buying asap, and letting it bake out a while.

48 plants 300g would be 72 yards x $70 = $5k :shock: Chump change compared to what your getting out of it.

I suggest you take out a short term loan & buy the very best soil. Try to find something like "Formula 419" soil here in NorCal.....http://www.fourseasonsmaterials.com/formula-419/
We used 80yds of 419 last season at $170yd = $14,000 delivered.....and worth every penny (:
If I can give you any advice it would be don't scrimp on soil, it's the single best thing you can do to start your garden right. Everything else is catch-up. 175# at harvest should give you enough return to re-pay the loan.o_O

If you have to stick to that budget, then I would buy that local top soil and amend it to be as close to sunshine or other good bagged dirt. Add some lime to be safe and get it cooking as soon as you can. How are you feeding these plants? In the soil or liquid, both? Sounds like you're onto a good size garden which means those costs go up, but the reward even more so. Farming is gambling.

For my 12 outside this year, I'll be spending around $3000. But I'll get to re use everything minus any amendments that the plants use. Probably buy some liquid ferts later on too, so add a couple grand to that. I could be in the $500 per plant range, but that's investment into re usable things for the most part. Not too bad if they get 3-5 lbs per plant. And for the OP, this isn't even accounting for occasional workers and all the hassle of harvest and trimming. And BTW pay those workers and trimmers as soon as possible, if they aren't partners.

I plan on buying a moderately good soil and being done.

$100-$120 a yard is what the good stuff starts at out west.

Im not trying to churn 20 yards. Much less 60.

How munch were you getting off per plant with that soil i was looking at some soil called nor cal gold sen it on craigslist

What kind of nutes do you use in that soil
