Foxfarm Happy frog or ocean forest ???

Happy Frog is FF low end soil. It was made to be sold at local nurseries, OSH, etc. Don't use it!! I have used ocean forest for a couple of years now with great success. Some people say its too "hot" for seedlings and clones, but I have never had any problems.

Iv used both, FF ocean forest can go to harvest in 5 gal buckets with little added fertilizer. Happy frog isnt low end, its a softer soil and it has myco fungi in it, FFOF dosnt but I suggest grabbing a bottle.

Happy Frog is a much lower quality soil, whether you think so or not. It is available at local nurseries, etc., which kind of shows what kind of quality it is. How many awesome products do you find on the shelf at OSH? Not many.

Its good soil, and decently cheap, my only problem is it dosnt come in 1.5cu bags.

I dont follow your logic, the fact that you find it in more stores may mean that its lower end, or that its more popular, sells more, burns less and is thus more mainstream... Im just pulling ideas out of my ass

Please tell me more information about happy frog that indicates it is low end? I would certainly use it instead of miracle grow or something like that.

Two more seconds of research found this snippet and this unbiased review, I gots to defend my brand, why is it low end?

like some one said earlier FF ocean forest and pick up the liter bottles of grow big and tiger bloom those should last you for a while.

I should have said in comparison to something like say ocean forest, it just doesn't stand up. Yes its much better than miracle grow soil, or super soil, etc. But the fact is, out of the bag, it holds too much water, lots of compaction, there is massive pH flucuations, etc.
Outdoors, used as a "buffer" soil in the ground, I'm sure it would work just fine. But in a temp controlled, indoor environment, it just isn't nearly as quality of a soil as ocean forest. The couple of dollars you save on a bag of happy frog, you end up spending on perlite. Without it, you risk overwatering, and compacting your grow medium.
This has been my experience with happy frog, and on the other board I am a member of, many members have problems with it as well. If it works for you, keep on using it. I wouldn't try and fix something that isn't broken. But for most of the people I have spoke with, they would prefer ocean forest any day of the week.

i am using happy frog it was suggested to me by the guy in the hydro store! it works fantastic it makes the roots grow like crazy i had to replant 4 times! i have been using it through out the whole grow and it seems to be working great

why do you say that happyfrog has plenty of perliite in it!!!

The hydro store near me recently started carrying the smaller bag of FFOF so I purchased one. I can't wait to run a clone through it. I had been using regular Pro-Mix. From what I've read, FFOF and Black Gold are the two best.

my clone is in ocean forest right now ill post pics this after noon its amazing....
