organics, where to start?

I would do something about the odd number of pots....... sounds like you've already started tho...... maybe do what you did and build on it..... teaspoon of psg and start using liquid seaweed...... I dunno how important your crop is to you but I don't fuck around w making my own ingredients or buying castings from the amish or any of that crazy shit..... bugs
yeah, i could easily bump it up to 6 or down to 4 to make even numbered pots.. thanks woody..

your first line makes you sound like an ass.
Why does he have to do anything you asked for, he was asking for advice.
its ok for him to ask questions, but its not ok for me to ask him questions ?
he was not only asking questions he was expressing his preconceived ideas, even if it was incoherent

interested in switching over to organics, mostly for the simplicity of the way organics grow..
is this a question or a conclusion/statement ?

water only sounds like something i could really get behind..
water only, or will he use teas and dressings, maybe i could ask a ?
but should i care, should anyone care, perhaps this question is too personal ?

so, i've been reading a bit up on some organic mixes,
he has been reading a bit

ive been reading for what seems like ages now on organics,.
he has been reading for what seems like ages now

"mostly for the simplicity" imho does sort of warrant skunkd0c's reply. Someone who says he's going to switch to hydro for bigger yields will receive similar questions I hope.
agrees ^^

the onus is on the OP to express themselves coherently

hey rb, maybe dedicate a small budget to acquire some amendments to mix and allow to cook for a future run. ive found it ez to line up the rectangular bins in rows and go to town w the ingredients.

you're aware of Rrogs infamous living-soil-thread, a lot of good organics ppl check in there. you'll find everything and more right there hidden in the mi forum. https://www.rollitup.org/t/so-who-here-is-growing-in-true-organic-living-soil.583341/page-121

noticed, some organics folks opt for marine life vs animal blood and bone meal (cows and bats ;)). so check out fish meal and fish bone meal, but it's all better than the synthetic route imo.

yeah, i've been following that thread for awhile now abe.., you know i always poke my head into the michigan section on here. :D
and yes, i've also noticed a lot of organic growers frown upon blood and bone meal that doesn't come from fish, although i have to admit i used some plant tone blood and bone meal in that bubba i was talking about earlier, but shh, don't tell anyone, lol..

It really depends on who you talj to, you go to heavyon the fish and seaweed based ferts you can end up with just as many heavy metals as if you grew synthetic. Just something to keep in mind, when I have my setup running organic I try to linit my source of fish stuff.
Although some people dont use guanos because it is hard to source it without harming the bats environment a little.
So it all hust depends on what level of tree higger you want to be lol, probably always be someone who thinks their way is cleaner/better like kushman and his veganics (just an example of extremism in organics)

lol, yeah, i've already noticed that about the organics crowd.. i personally don't really have an issue using blood or bone meal that came from a cow as i love me some beef to begin with.. same with guano, except i've heard that some guano can carry diseases, which is probably enough to put me off on using it..
what's the deal with heavy metals from fish products? you talking about mercury that is commonly found in most ocean going fish, or something else?
thanks for all the info natro, much appreciated..

that's a sin grease, i've always enjoyed your posts...
..."until you suggested grasscity :cuss:" ;)

Have you see this one yet: http://rollitup.org/t/giving-defoliation-during-flower-a-try.839655/page-135#post-11192909 read the first paragraph...

OP is asking questions, but is also making statements, when i asked him to clarify why he does not want to use bottled nutes, and why he thinks organics would be more simple instead of sharing his ideas, he accuses me of "nit picking"
As our PM replied to the press a couple of times, "there are several incorrect assumptions in your question that make it difficult to answer so let me address those first". Always liked that one.

Yeah mostly just mercury in fish.
Like I know I will never use any fish guts from local lakes because you are not supposed to eat them its that bad in some of the lakes in my area... its really all about where you source it in the end.

I'm on my first run with organics and so far its going well.

I used cootz mix more or less, and sourced ingredients locally if I could.

I mixed up a base mix, and separated out like 15gallons of it, then mixed all amendments into the base to make a food mix. The amended mix sat on a tarp in my basement for weeks while it composted and became ready, and has been moved to stackable bins in the corner.

I transplanted clones directly into the base mix in small containers, and when they were ready I transplanted into 5gal smart pots filled with the homogenous 'food' mix.

They only gotten RO water. I had a bit of a cal spotting/and mag chlorosis but adding calmag to my water has fixed it.

So far I'm very happy. I'm more interested in topdressing amendments than I am in making and dealing with teas and such... So far I haven't had to do anything but I did throw a bit of kelp meal at one or two plants.

So, I'm basically water only as of now... Time will tell if my soil will feed the plants thru flower.

Let me know if I can help you in any way!

Good luck RB!

heh, yeah well pattahabi got me hooked, and i'll tell ya, the organic guys over there are some cool dudes.
Good stuff, the stickys alone are good reads, combine that with the stickys here, and you don't need to ask anymore questions, it'll cover EVERYTHING.
grasscity vs RIU, is a lot like a chevy vs ford or a Honda vs Toyota type of thing

even if doing a small grow. Mixing your own soil is cheaper and easier. Even if buying bagged soil you still need to do some mixing. So recommending using bagged soil for.ease is an oxymoron. Ffof is not organic. (synth urea). You don't have to mix a giant pile at a time. I live in a condo. I mix up enough to fit in a 20 gal rubbermmaid tote at time. Just break it down. Peatmoss, coco, castings, compost, pumice and nutrients. Doesn't take very long either. Much simpler than you think. Mixing up a mix of bottled nutes every watering is far more time consuming than making a tea. When I do.teas I don't measure anything really. Just throw n handfuls of what ever.

ignore docs posts. He does the same thing in every organic thread. He probably works for a hydro company.
