My father's people go a long way back in NOLA. Unfortunately, my sisters and I are too swarthy skinned for most of them.

I have?

 Fuck! Yes, swarthy is dark-skinned. Hopefully this I will remember. Otherwise, I may end up like my mother with my cupboards full of salt and my refrigerator full of celery because I keep forgetting that I already bought some.

oh yes you can; down here you can technically get a dui for riding your horse drunk on a public road... i guess bicycles, tractors, horses all count as driving... even if the top speed is 10:blsmoke:

I once went to a party last year down in Clinton Nc.. with 3 kegs, a band and lots of people smoking and drinking at a farm. met lots of cool people there including a guy who had trained his horse to take him home after the entire night was over and he was hammered..

so at about 3 in the morning I helped saddle his horse and sent him off..

No, too dark-skinned for my father's family. My sisters and I were not treated well by certain members of my father's family. I recently learned that it was specifically because of our mother's heritage. What made it so ridiculous is that my mother came from an excellent family, both sides of whom came to the Caribbean and made their own ways, one grandfather of hers started up the first bank in his town, which happens to house the oldest church in the western hemisphere. Yet, because of where she was from, wasn't good enough for them. It explained a LOT about my experiences growing up. A hell of a lot.

Just for an idea, one of my uncles supported David Duke when he made his bid for Louisiana governor. :| Fucking David Duke. That same uncle lives about a quarter mile away from where the levy breached, and being a survivalist, he was ready to rock & roll when the armed forces came around to take everyone away. Johnny had his guns and ammo and said, "Just you try!" :|

Yo soy medio Boricua. ;)

I totally dig what Johnny did during the Katrina flooding. He had sandbags, guns, food stores, and water, enough not just for himself but for his neighbors on his WHOLE block. He taught them how to teach the dogs to alert to strangers, he armed them, they put sandbags around all their homes and hunkered down. No damage, no one was removed from their homes, and they did fine.

Also, he's a machinist who volunteers his time to the suicide hotline AND the city making replacement parts and doing repairs on the trolleys.

Do you know that it probably is the reason why it seemed as though my father never had a childhood? He rarely spoke of his life growing up there in Jefferson Parish. One of my sisters is really good at catching him at "the right time", and I'm finally learning more about my father than I ever could have imagined.

Most the people in Louisiana are douche bags. The girls are beatiful though. I lived there for 22 years, born and raised. The only thing I miss is the food. Its been at least 3 years since I was there last. Need to get down there and see my mom and brother. And eat some damn crawfish too

I wasnt meaning any disrespect with the douchebag comment, as I am also from Louisiana. Some of the best people I know are in Louisiana but they seem far out numbered by all the hustler wannabe's and thugs. Im from that riverboat casino town. Been gone about 6 years now
