Soil vs DWC - Your Thoughts

dwc will out grow soil and out yeild soil by far but soil tends to have nicer buds tast better and if u do it right u can come close to dwc yields but dwc will win hands down on production for sure ;)

i use bvb or canna terra i come close to what my mates pulls in coco but mine always tasts a shit load better

If I knew that I would be away for up to 10 days at a time, I would go soil with a drip on a timer. Soil holds moisture, so it can be watered every 2nd or 3rd day, saving water. Hydro drinks water, so you need a large enough supply, so you are talking a drum to carry you that long. I have a recirculating drip with pebbles for 7 plants that are between 3' and 4' tall, and they drink at least 2.5 gallons a day. Hydro it not something that you can walk away from. It produces better product, but you have to stay on top of it until the plant is done. Long weekend OK, but I wouldn't stretch it much longer.

my DWC and ebb n flow systems both run fine, i can leave for up to 2 weeks as long as my res is topped off and ph balanced to 5.5 when i leave..when i come home the water level is down and ph is usually up to 6.1-6.2 but i change my res every 2 weeks anyways..never had a problem leaving for 10 to even 14 days, but no longer than that..

Thanks Jimdamick, Good advice. I don't want a big disappointment when I get home! That's the main thing.

How big a res? I have a 27 gal Tupperware, and in 3 day's I'm dry. I have big plants though, not the puny things you probably grow.

If you grow in soil and lose power they should be fine. dwc will suffocate fast. Dwc needs oxygen to the roots. If the power goes out you have to pull the plants out of the buckets and slosh the water around every few minutes.

my plants top out about 3-4 ft tall, runing in 4inch pvc and 3.75 inch net pots, res is 40 gallons.. they suck up close to a gallon a day..

power outages arnt a concern unless its out for a couple days, as in dwc there is always water the roots bath in.

I grow using all 3 -- soil, soilless, dwc -- depending on what mood I'm in. If I'm looking for some fast amazing growth and yield-- usually just for fun -- I run dwc. If I'm looking for the real true high grade -- I use soil. In my experience I've found herb grown in soil to be more tasty and fragrant than in dwc.
