Anyone use deordorant, perfumes or body lotions while, pregnant? Use a cell phone, wifi or bluetooth? Microwave oven? Artrifical sweetners? Horomone injected foods? Caffine? Or ever sit in front of a large t.v.?
I think these are all way worse that a little bit of weed use during pregnancy. There are studies to prove alot of the above mentioned things harm a fetus. There are no studies to proove weed does though.
Should we all live in bubbles drinking distilled water then?

According to SocataSmoker there are indeed studies proving that weed is harmful. I read the one that he posted, though, and even though they used PURIFIED cannabinoids and resins, they found no chromosomal damage (I think mitochondria were unaffected as well, can't remember how many God damned pages back that was, though).

You left out motherhood over age 35 as a huge risk factor. One of my own sisters didn't have her first child til age 39, he was low birth weight at premature birth and had a real "failure to thrive" for the first three months. It was very frustrating, I know how to grow fat, healthy babies on breast milk.

Oh, and you forgot nutrition as another risk factor.

Ganja mothers, ganja babies

In one study, children of ganja-using mothers were tested and compared with children of non-ganja using mothers. Tests were conducted when the children were 1, 3, and 30 days old, and at ages four and five.

No statistically significant differences in developmental abilities were found, except that the 30-day test showed that children of ganja-using mothers were superior to children of non-ganja mothers in two ways. These children had better organization and modulation of sleeping and waking, and they were less prone to stress-related anxiety.

The release of these study results was considered politically incorrect by anti-marijuana factions in government and academia, because they so directly contradicted the oft-repeated assertion that prenatal marijuana use hurts children and that marijuana users were poor mothers. Dreher's studies found the opposite: ganja mothers were often better mothers than their non-ganja using counterparts. Their households were often cleaner, better-funded and more fun than those where cannabis was shunned!

So do mine. :D I bet you don't know that I never played, as in physical games, until AFTER I had kids. I was painfully shy growing up, and awfully chubby in high school, those two factors kept me holed up some place alone, reading, for most of my childhood.

Having babies makes you playful. :D

But this thread isn't about those things. That's just deflection... hell even drinking milk today can lead to cancer. This is specifically about the effects of mj on a fetus.

The Pharmacogenomics Journal - Discrete opioid gene expression impairment in the human fetal brain associated with maternal marijuana use

I know... I know.... it's research that doesn't support mj use during pregnancy in a positive light so it will be discredited by posters here.

i dont think anyone is trying to advocate it as the cure-all snake oil; just saying that the negative effects of marijuana use are far less than that of any pharmaceutical

Very topical subject. My partner is expecting our second, she's 18 weeks.

congrats bro!! us too; she's 15wks now.... and yes, she has quit smoking recreationally, but will not hesitate for one second to take a hit if need be (in place of the "promethizine"), which has only happened twice.... two hits... will my baby have a pumpkin head and come out premature and unhealthy??? i think not.

Thanks, she cut back to a few puffs every other J while carrying our first child. He was 5 weeks early as she had pre-eclampsia. Its hard to say if it was related. Blood pressure was a major thing and that was only gonna go up if she wanted something she couldn't have. Son was born 3lb3oz and came on well since then. slept through from about 2 months, he's no bother. This time round its the same, except its all natural, home-grown by daddy. No toxin laden, over-priced, british resin, no siree. The whole smoking thing when you are pregnant is THE issue, not the herbal additives. I couldn't stop smoking for 9 months, i dont think!

A lot of us "older" folk here are probably nicotine babies. I don't recall women cutting back on smoking while pregnant until the early 60's.

I'm glad the baby days are over for me. I wouldn't want to make that decision myself either. Tough call, good luck and congrats!
