So good news and bad news..

Bad news first....

I will be attending the BBQ solo as the wife will not be able to make it. I will also not be able to run an outdoor crop next season. :( I have a lot to prepare for in the coming year.

The reason is........

I am going to be a FATHER again!! My wife is in her 1st trimester and due in August! I got a hell of a surprise last night! Can't think of a better reason to take the season off!

See you all at the BBQ!!!! :D

My map/directions say, 3hrs 53min from Visalia to CFW. Tack on my 30min drive from my house to Visalia and deduct for my lead foot and it is a 4 hour drive, depending on the connections from freeway to freeway in Sacto.
I am terrified of heights and some connections have high sweeping transitions and Sammy doesn't do those. That might add a little extra as I take my detours staying on Terra Firma. This usually involves going beyond the too high offramp, taking the next one, getting back on the same Fwy going the other direction and taking that connector because one side is usually not scary.
I already feel apprehensive about unknown heights in a week. Eek‼‼
I don't know how to say this, but you may need to stop in Stockton & medicate before you reach Sac....
Because Sacramento is at the confluence of 2 rivers, & has completely flooded and completely wash way about 3-4 times in the past, there are many elevated roadways....it's gonna be difficult to get thru Sac without crossing at least 1 bridge.
I thought about not saying anything however, the way you feel about it, I thought you should know....
Now I'm bummed....:(
P.S. You might be able to take hwy99 to hwy50 east to Folsom & cross the river just below Folsom dam where the river is narrowest. Take Folsom-Auburn road across to hwy80 & back down. Might add 1hr, but your still gonna have to cross the river somewhere.....

Sam-
99 north to business 80 east then 80 east to Reno to 65 north. Don't take I-5, many high bridges using that route. You'll be fine using the route I suggested.
See you next week.

The transitin from 80 to 65 is a high sweeper.....and 80 thru sac is elevated
Good point......that 80/65 intersection is up there, this is what I suggest.......Exit at Douglas (east) in Roseville, then left on Sunrise (first signal), left on Lead Hill, right on Galleria, to 65 north. My son had a football playoff game a couple weeks back in Colfax, we stayed at the "Extended stay America" on the corner of Lead Hill and Galleria in Roseville. That area has EVERYTHING!

Good luck Sam, I'm going up on Friday afternoon, your welcome to ride/follow me through Sacramento, or we can commute from Merced if you wish.

Don't freak her out, she'll be fine going the route I suggested. Just stay off of I-5 north.

I want her to come treeman, just not tramatized by the trip. I was just going to see if there aren't any short detours that might avoid some of it....like your suggestion above.
