Someone who can't work to provide for themselves or their family, should you and I as a taxpayer provide for them?
Why/why not?

I'm a disabled combat vet and I get a check and I think I should.Someone who can't work to provide for themselves or their family, should you and I as a taxpayer provide for them?

I agree with you Polo. There's nothing that irritates me more than folks who park a fridge next to their lazy boy for 25 years watching tv. Then wonder why they can't walk and expect us to pay their way through. We have all seen this at walmart with them driving their way through the twinky section and 4 or 5 little jaba's with them.I'm a disabled combat vet and I get a check and I think I should.
Or are you talking about people who are born disabled or some sort of accident? If it was an on the job injury I think the employers insurance should pay, not we the people. Those that are citizens and born disabled I think we should take care of them. Those that became disabled by their own stupidity should take care of themselves.
To me, that is the crux of the problem. A whole lot of people would rather pick daisies and write poetry than earn a living.I vote yes, if it's a genuine disability.
Why should soldiers be entitled to free care if everyone else isn't tho?
Do they not know war is dangerous when they're signing up (of their own free will)? Are they not paid for their labour?
Padawan, I'd recommend a fairly stringent list of disabilities, we had a problem here where the conditions were relaxed and it got to the stage some people are "disabled" yet able to function in life completely normally.
My big question tho, why not just nationalise healthcare and look after disabled people under that system?
Remember, our nationalised healthcare (with a private option) is 4x cheaper per capita to the taxpayer than the private US system.
Overall tho, in my opinion at least, it is better to have a system with moochers that would correctly serve the people it's really designed to protect than denying help to the people that need it.To me, that is the crux of the problem. What you are saying, is: be reasonable. I agree with that.Overall tho, in my opinion at least, it is better to have a system with moochers that would correctly serve the people it's really designed to protect than denying help to the people that need it.
Constant searches for efficiency and active fraud prevention would be enough for me to sign off on it tho.
well, at least you recognize that your "liberal plantation" conspiracy theory is as racist as it gets. What you are saying, is: be reasonable. I agree with that.
The welfare system in the US has been perverted to create divisions for exploitation by politicians. I support welfare, for those that need it to weather bad luck.
The problem in the US, and probably in the EU, is that welfare has created a permanent underclass that has been crippled by the kindness of politicians who exploit them. The welfare system works to keep these people dependent; the more the merrier.
Cue the chants of "RACIST".
Yes, massah.well, at least you recognize that your "liberal plantation" conspiracy theory is as racist as it gets.
Gee, who could have guessed?well, at least you recognize that your "liberal plantation" conspiracy theory is as racist as it gets.
That's a hugely oversimplified argument and one that is also ignorant of the facts.I have never understood the hatred of welfare. Most people who use it need it and they are not exactly proud of using it. Yes, there are people who abuse the system but, to wipe out the system because of a few assholes is just flat out stupid. Most people who go on welfare are trying to get ahead in life. Problem is, once they get a job, they are penalized for that job and lose a percentage of welfare assistance and go right back to square one. The government does not want you to get ahead, they want you to barely make ends meet. It amazes me how people keep attacking other people instead of attacking the problem. Everyone realizes this is all made up right?! Inflation, taxes, prices, are all made up. The same basic ingredients to make a meal haven't really changed in a really long time yet, due to supply, demand, and greed, we now pay ridiculous amounts for those same things.
