Solar Power Is A Good Idea

I'm doing this, by the way. Not on my roof, but a large ground array.

Don't forget you can deduct 30% of the entire cost, including installation!

Also don't forget, if you can produce more power than you use, the electric company will begin to write checks for YOU to cash, or at least that is how I have heard the process works. Perhaps they just give you credit on your bill, but the fact remains, if you produce more than you use, you get paid for it :)

It's great Silus. Still many critics. Not sure why
The world's premiere solar power facility (Ivanpah) has a story to tell if you care to read it. I do not believe it is the scientists whom keep getting these numbers wrong, but rather the special interests, politicians and their corporate cronies using them. The projected 377 mega watt production quoted everywhere, even today, would require 24/7/365 days which is simply not a real world number (ie lacks integrity). Without their current natural gas use/production this facility would be an utter failure to those whom rely upon it.

I'm just talking individual local arrays. Battery storage for the power is available with LiOn batts, and that tech is only getting better. Entire communities could be taken off the grid.

Best is to utilize a hydrogen fuel cell to store extra watts as hydrogen seperated from water. One can easily upsize a hydrogen storage vessel and lifespan is greater than traditional battery technology.

That said, Rolls Surrette or Trojan deep cycles are the most commonly used by off griders.

I have nothing against solar brother, that is if you can actually afford it. I was just pointing out the willful manipulation of the numbers by the industry for personal gain that is driving the mistrust you had questioned. If you are able to make such an investment personally, do it knowing the risks and with your eyes open.

TheMan- Well, I'm not building a municipal power plant, so can't comment on that. I'm just installing a ground array for me. 9 year payback and no moving parts. Math is simple for me at that level

Snaps- you are a deep well. That's very interesting for sure
