Some, yes. I know some very progressive Christians who believe in science, to a great degree. They believe in the Big Bang, evolution, etc. They just believe God designed it all.
Those Oregonians are a loony bunch.

A couple of the smartest people I know are Christians
But Christianity itself, in my opinion, is still a very ugly and dangerous idea
The Christians we know don't hate gay's or rally against teaching evolution in the science classroom, but underneath it all, they still believe homosexuals won't get into Heaven and that evolution has nihilistic consequences. Examining that, not getting into Heaven means you go to Hell. In Christian mythology, Hell is a place of eternal torture and torment of which one can never escape. So I ask these same Christians if there's any crime any man could commit on Earth deserving of eternal punishment, and they unanimously agree with what the Bible has to say on the subject, ie. blasphemy, adultery, and indeed, any sin you don't ask forgiveness for and accept Jesus into your life. That is all justifiably punishable by eternal torment.
To me, this is one of the craziest things to understand; how such nice, rational, reasoned people could accept such a proposition.. It's like my nice old grandma baking a cherry pie then telling me "you touch it you fucking die MOTHERFUCKER!".. just very confusing and conflicting with the reality I understand.. How could someone so sweet and innocent believe such horrible things?
That's what it comes down to for me with Christianity. In a sense, it's very deceiving on the surface while Islam is very up front with the violence; Believe or DIE! While Christianity takes the much more sinister approach to belief.
That's part of the reason I think so many people are initially drawn to Christianity. They present it as the "turn the other cheek" mentality, when in reality it's more like Islam, except they believe the consequences aren't faced until after death, and until then they have no qualms about judging you on Earth accordingly.

I said "some subsets" of Christianity are harmless compared to Islam. I know that uncounted wrongs have been done by many Christian sects. But not all Christians are eager to string up gays and minorities.
