I was wondering what your favorite strain is amongst the cubensis family and look forward to hearing your reasons why.
we know poppies produce a dozen or so different active chemicals and it is damn certain that mixing pure codeine and pure morphine is not nearly the same as opium. You already said pot was highly variable. Peyote has a boatload of inebrients and analogs. I just wrote in another thread that I suspect other chemicals are present in coca. Anyone who has had good Peruvian and real pharmaceutical cocaine will invariably pick the clandestine substance as being more uplifting and exhuberant. Calling the pharm flat and speedy. That wouldn't surprise me Canndo, if there were minor chemicals that changed the effects. Sort of how it seems like terpenes as well as the other cannabinoids effect the high from cannabis.
Purely for science of course.but this talk makes me want to grow out six or seven and do a direct comparison.

I have considered the growing wood loving mushrooms, for I understand strains like the azures are very potent but can be a bit more challenging to grow. I hope to increase my mycology skills and one day give them a shot but for now I am choosing to crawl before I walk so im sticking with cubes for now.Cube is a cube, but I would love to try some wood loving psilocybin species. I hear they are quite potent.
Thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts on this subject. I appreciate hearing your outcomes with personal experiences. I eat the wild coplandia cyans here in Hawaii until there coming out of my ears...lol . They definitely feel different than cubes and I usually have to eat two times as much in weight to get me to that similar place. Is this a substrate thing? If I grew the wild mushroom on a cake would it be more potent?to this day I do not know why different "strains" seem to have different psychoactive characteristics. As far as we know there are three different psychoctives in mushrooms and two of them are presumed to have identical effects. I begin to suspect there may be others or compounds that have properties that may modify the actions of the others.
my favorite was an albino amazon. Long gone. They grew to be huge, some nearly a foot tall, nearly pure white, bruised a deep dark indigo ryzomorphic as hell.

Now im wondering how much the mushrooms in a controlled environment plays an important roll in potency. I have eaten the coplandia Cyans, aka blue meanies, close to a hundred times and in my days of experience I have noticed a difference in potency within the times I picked them. I remember I picked a batch early in the morning on a fresh bloom and only consumed about 10 or 15 nickel sized caps and tripped harder then times where I had eaten 25 to 30. In other words I believe then sun, wind, and timing in which you pick seems to make a difference. The sun makes heat, the wind and timing can make a loss in spore counts and other valuable properties...right? Check out how different they look at different times.Substrate I'd imagine affects the total psilocybin and psilocyn production, but cyan and azure are both atleast twice as strong as cubes. Even a perfect substrate couldn't increase the psilocyn prouduction past it's genetic limits. (Which varies a lot throughout a single fungus)
Cyans will always be genetically more potent than cubes though.
Take a trip out here in Hawaii... or keep in touch LolA cube is a cube to some extent, but there are tons of huge differences between them. I've gotten very different effects from different cubes, and they also can grow very differently.
The burmese strain I had grew like crap, and I've read that same thing from alot of people that have grown burmese. My south americans produced less yield but some large mushrooms with AWESOME visuals. The Koh samoi I mentioned had a very introspective intense trip, yielded great, and also seemed to resist contams well. I grew a strain called Ereal which also grew really well. Blue meanies were the first strain I grew, and they were great too, nice yields, some very intense trips.
I havn't gotten to try any wood lovers yet, but I sure hope to some day. I'd love to get my hands on just a couple nice Azures , or a few pan cyans.
How much does a controlled environment play on potency? I am under the impression that the heat from the sun, as well as the wind and timing in which they are picked play a role in potency in the terms of the wild mushrooms themselves and not within the species or genetic capacities and capabilities so to say. Im sure most would say only one way to find out but, I wish I had the knowledge to corner cut instead of investing my own time in growing the wild ones that I pick and can hardly give away for free here just to find out something someone is already knowledgeable of.there is constant debate about substrate and potency. I have grown them on everything you can imagine and even used commercial additives. I never noticed any difference but I never actually did side by side tests.
I am vaguely aware if some tests using precursors, seratonin or something like that in the substrate and I think it yielded some statistically measurable results
I do know that one can increase the protein content of shitaki and oyster using something, maybe alfalfa or cotton seed meal.
