Im needing some suggestions/input on growing out of an apartment. Im just wanting to grow something like 1-3 plants. Nothing big, extravagant, or noticeable. It will be for personal consumption and only temporary. I plan on getting a house within the next year. At that point I can dedicate a room or portion of a room to growing. Right now Im spending about $400.00/mo on weed ($200 a half and getting a half every 2 weeks). I make decent money, but Id rather spend the weed money on something else and just grow for my own personal use.

The apartment complex isnt fancy enough to were the boss's are constantly in the tenant's shit, but they arent run down. They dont have scheduled inspections or anything like that. Just a 2 story complex and Im on the top, so the only reason they would ever come in unannounced is like if my apartment was leaking into the apartment below me or something.

I plan on doing some reading and researching, but I figured Id make a thread pertaining to me and what I want.

When I plan things that could potentially get me in trouble I always think of worst case scenarios.

My worst case scenario would be if a land lord or maintenance comes in unannounced:
  1. How noticeable is it?

  • Smell? Well, considering I would be growing in a PC box or something similar with only 2 very small plants, I dont think this would be an issue.
  • If for what ever reason I need to take it down or hide it. How easy is it to do so?

Like I said. Im thinking something like a PC box. If someone DID happen to see it hopefully they think "Old desktop PC computer case in a closet. Nothing to see here" Because, I mean its the day and age of convenience. Im tech savvy. Xbox One, 360, HDTV, and 2 lap tops in the living room. That PC case in the closet is just me hoarding because I dont have room to set up my PC in my 1 bedroom apartment :roll: I try to meticulously plan out everything and play out different scenarios in my head. You can never be too prepared.

So lets get into the actual project a little.

Outside of a PC box grow. What else can be used in a stealth kind of way? Not really feeling the sub speaker box idea. Mini fridge would be/could be too inviting. A cedar chest or some sort of Lowes DIY project would seem too out of place or "shady". A PC in a closet doesnt seem like it would be too alarming if worst came to worst.

So, any ideas of what else could be used?

I dont wanna go into lighting, nutrients, seed strain, or yield outputs yet.
Assuming I go with a PC box those come with fans for ventilation, so Im not worried there.

To get a half every week you'll need at least a 400w hps HID, and a minimum of ten freshly rooted clones in a 15"x15"x6" F&D table using one mom for your snips. You can get away with 80w's daylight CFL's for a mom and cloning.

It would be a half every 2 weeks. Ok, so lets say I wouldnt be totally opposed to a smaller grow tent. Something thats easy to put up and easy to take down (if need be).

Suggestions?

The apartment stank came flowertime but my friends (the ones who owned the apt) were pot heads as well, they smoked an abundant amount of weed so we weren't sure if it was the grow or just the steady atmosphere of exhaled potsmoke. Get yourself a carbon filter to attach to your exhaust. Make sure the CFM ratings match up with the filter or the smell won't be neutralized efficiently.

BIG WARNING -- DONT PLUG EVERYTHING INTO ONE OUTLET, ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLUG IN A HEATER. We almost caught the apartment building on fire because my dumbass friend overloaded an outlet and the wiring was old/outdated, the circuit didn't shut off. He smelled smoke and immediately ran in there, the outlet was melted and so was the surge protector plug. Big No No. Route electricity from other rooms of your apartment, and make sure (since you're apparently a computer geek too) that you ration your electricity consumption and don't keep all your electronics on or plugged in that you won't need

Step 1: Get a grow tent, you will need that to conceal your grow and maintain a healthy environment for your plants. Put it in your bedroom closet or something.
My friends and I bought this one, it fit in a typical closet (if yours has a sliding door it will most likely fit)

Step 2: You'll need some exhaust fans/intake fans. Get them off amazon. I bought 99% of what I have off of amazon.
Step 3: Perhaps you should check out the Aerogarden... I grew 2 plants 5' tall in that 1 gallon aerogarden 7 reservoir and they were fire :) and it's discreet, too. Also works well for germing/starting newbies. The light also comes off/raises up onto different levels, so you can advance the plants quite a bit before needing to switch to another light platform.

That's quite a low expectation to be only getting a 1/2 a week off of a perpetual and a 400w light. in a 3x3 with a 400 and only 4 plants harvesting 1 every 2 weeks i would get between one and 1.5 oz a week.

also most everything I grow tends to be low yielding headstash.

upgraded since then to a 4x4 and a 600.

my suggestion would be a 3x3

3x3x6 tent,6" inline centrifugal exhuast fan,6" carbon filter,400w HPS and reflector,some quality soil,nutes,small circulating fan,and ducting.You'll need to route that exhuast to.a different room or outside so you're not dumping it back into the room the grow pulls it's fresh air from.

I have a 1 bedroom apartment. I can use different outlets, but idk if they'd be going off the same circuit. I was thinking about going soil, but like I said this is my first grow. Which would you recommend?

Soil gets the place dirty... go with hydro for sure. Pretty much it's just your plant's roots dangling in the water, but with airstones oxygenating the roots by bubbling the reservoir. They call this bubbleponics.

and if you can get an extension cord, run it from your living room or kitchen

I could run the exhaust out of a bedroom window.

My only question with the tent though. Wouldnt it be obvious what was up IF someone were to see it? Again, I dont plan on anyone coming around, but if worst comes to worst and someone does come in or needs to come in I dont want them to be like " Hmm, whats this thing? Lets have a look".

I have a 1 bedroom apartment with a closet in my bedroom. Havent measured, but if I had to guess dimensions it would be 4-4 1/2' Deep x 5-5 1/2' Wide. From when you first walk in the closet until you reach the back of the wall it has rods for hanging up clothes on both sides. A shelf on both sides above the rods for storage. A tent wouldnt fit in there unless I turned it sideways and at that point the closet wouldnt be accessible. If I decide to use a tent it would just be in my room, up against my wall, for anyone to see IF someone did come in. Like I said though, Im not positive on the dimensions. If I could fit something behind my hanging clothes and up against the wall, that would be ideal.

I could run a cord for sure from the living room or kitchen. I can go hydro too. Although Im not familiar with the process or bubbleponics. I need to read up a little on them. I hate sounding like a complete noob and needing people to spoon feed me, but there is SOOOOOO much info and different ways to do things that its actually overwhelming :joint: haha

yeah man i was in your shoes about 2 years ago

main things you will need:

PPM meter (measure the nutrients in the water)
PH meter (measure the PH levels of the water)
Distilled Water gallon jugs (from walmart/any grocery store)
Nutrients (i use Flora nutes, look them up on amazon)
Aerogarden (to get started, it works well. You can order plugs/grow medium (sponges that go into the plugs), which then the plugs go into the aerogarden pod holes and suspend the roots into the water)
reflective tape (to seal off light from shining through the pods and growing algae in the reservoir. Your reservoir needs to be sealed from light, which the aerogarden does a decent job of
Air stones to put in reservoir, doesnt take much to bubble a 1gal reservoir
Air Pump to power the air stones, you just line regular aquarium hoses from the pump to the air stone in the reservoir
2-400watt ballast with a MH bulb for Veg and an HPS bulb for Flower.. you'll also need a cool tube, which you then exhaust from the cooltube straight out the closet. The rule is to exhaust up^ intake down V, obviously because hot air rises/cold air sinks
You will need a fan or a clip on fan to circulate air in the tent when you get into veg/flower

Most tents comes with prefit 4" or 6" holes so you can pretty much plug and play with ducts

Worst case scenario,wait,find a better hookup because $200 a 1/2 is retarded ridiculous!I pay between $140 and $160 a 1/2 for AAA dank and I live in a non med state.

Oh, okay. That makes sense

Second question. Why not grow 5 or 10 ounces in grow, instead of a weekly ounce? It would be simpler for a newbie.

I live in Oklahoma. Anything less than a half is considered a misdemeanor and anything over a half is a felony possession with intent to distribute. Growing is a felony, cultivation. I dont know where you live, but its probably not in the "bible belt". The stuff I buy is dank for sure and he always has it, so its what ever I guess. Back when I first started smoking I remember my friends having to text/call up like 3 or 4 different people just for some reggie.
