NEW APARTMENT PROBLEMS WITH LIGHT & Electrical panel ! URGENT HELP NEEDED.

Hey guys, im a urgent need of help!

What the heck should you do when halfway into flowering, you suddenly cant get the lights to work? We tried to set our 600w light to turn on in our new apartment but our electrical panel automatically turns off all electricity in the apartment.

Any suggestions?

how old is the ballast ? its only 600 watts. should not pop a breaker I wonder if your ballast took a shit ? you should be able to pull 1000 to 1300 watts off a single breaker safely .

You need electrical help like another circuit added to carry the 600w load, but the boys above are correct reduce the load until the electrician shows by turning of heavy stuff

Sounds to me like you have a short either in your outlet (try another one) or in your ballast. Possibly even in your light. Check the cords for nicks, exposure to the wire anywhere

if you are running on a single 15 amp fuse the fuse will break the ciruit once you go over about 1800 watts.

Its possible 1800 watts is the maximum wattage for your entire apartment if your landlord only has 1 15 amp fuse connected to it.

I would check the lease contract and make sure you didn't agree to the low amperage fuse being there. If you didn't you could call your landlord out on it and possibly have them update it... or if you would rather not have the landlord know your electric usage you might consider just going right to the electrician assuming they don't need to talk with your landlord.

So ALL the power goes out, do you mean the "main" breaker trips which feeds your entire panel or was it just that one circuits breaker. If your tripping your main it might be a fire hazard with heat issues etc. If its just that one circuit, upgrade it to a "tandem 15 amp", or IMO call an electrician or go out and try to meet a "sparky" lol GL bud nothings worth compromising family safety.

absolutely will not because a chopped wire isn't drawing anything unless they're exposed and touching.

it sounds like he's tripping the breaker And running a 600 w on a regular extension cord is a fire hazard also... The connections will get hot. Better to upgrade the breaker and run a new line directly from there.

Ok ok it sounds like your tripping your circut. Can you upload a picture ? That would help I'm glad to look.
What size breaker/fuse it is for that room?
Do you have access to the breaker panel?
you said 600 watt. What else is running ...fans pumps etc.????
how big is your apartment/ where is your grow in the apartment..spare room closet cabinet??

I just had a similar situation. I had an electrician run a brand new 4 outlet box that was on it's own breaker. I didn't get to test it till all my stuff came in. For some reason I can run anything and everything off those 4 outlets EXCEPT my light. Everytime I plug it in it trips the breaker! I tried pluging a microwave into it, a dehumidifier, and they worked fine. Here is the kicker, I plugged my ballast into a few different outlets in my house with no problem what so ever, so I'm left scratching my head and with a room full of grow equipment, so I'm very hesitant to call the electrician back!

If you have to call an electrician or your landlord, I would think of a pretty good excuse as to WHY you need it upgraded, or why your concearned about it. Everyone is right, it shouldn't be triping the breaker, however my above situation is a good example of how weird electricity can be, and how difficult it can be to have maintence done during a grow. If your microwave doesn't trip the breaker, why would the ballast? Who knows, I certaintly don't : )

If it's a small panel, I would try manually shutting off every breaker except the one the light is on and see if it still does the same thing.

just tell your landlord that your new gaming comps power supply is 1000w.. and u got a tv and all other appliances.. so .. u should be able to get him to update it .

and because ballasts sometimes have to use alot more juice to start up then stay on.. so sometimes a small breaker will allow a microwave.. and not a ballast.. it depends on the ballasts.. also.. but like others have said.. apartments sometimes have like no real amperage so . u need to have it upgraded in order to grow.

right on target!!

the load for the ballast is larger initially to startup and then Stay on. i believe that inital load for a 1k ballast its something like 10A if your running 110v and around 7 if your running 220v someone chime in and corect m e if im wrong but thats my understanding.

Stll no word from the OP. if he answers the questions i asked and presents a picture of his breaker box it would be helpful
