Personally i couldn't care less about your gun ownership, it is your right, as a country you made that choice and seem happy about it. It does amazze me that people get all teary and shocked when someone goes and shoots up a school or movie theater though. you want guns, excellent, stop being acted by the consequences.
As to retina scanning, seems the better compromise would be thumb print scanning. Does little in the way of preventing you from immediate action, and offers a fairly decent degree of security. they've used those in tom clancy novels for decades
But as racerboy sais, it's pretty useless given how many guns are already out there that do not have these features. Just like these wonderful ideas of remote shutdowns and such in new cars. Doesn't do anything for those already on the road.

palm/print scanners in the grip were experimented with extensively.
after just a few rounds they broke (guns go boom and electronics dont like booms)
the most successful experiment so far was in a major metro PD using this:

however, anyone who wore the ring could use the gun, and it is just a matter of a few minutes for a competent tinkerer to remove the device, with or without the ring.
even gun safes cannot prevent the theft of your guns if the thief is smarter than a potato and has the time and tools to crack the safe open.
safes dont stop thieves, they only inconvenience them.
your oft repeated (and imaginary) retina scan gun safe locks would be no more effective than any other gun safe. you can always authorize somebody else to access it, you can give somebody else the combination, or give them a copy of the key just like with normal locks.
retina scans (still imaginary) would not prevent the controller of the program from authorizing his whole family to open the lock, or are you proposing the govt control who may or may not open your gun safe?
if as some have assumed, you meant retina scanners on the gun itself, that is retarded.

the only way to ensure guns are used responsibly is to let responsible people own guns.

Suppose I owned one of your mythical retinal scanning handguns. What if I am away on travel and a ne'er do well enters my home intent on harming my wife and kids? That gun would be useless in my wife's hands, or my kids' hands.

Here is a compromise I am willing to consider: You lefties get together and push through a constitutional amendment that revokes 2A and explicitly forbids rational citizens from owning weapons. If you can do that, then we have the initial environment to begin to compromise. Until then you are just blowing smoke out of your sphincter.
You really don't understand this at all, do you? THERE IS NO SOLUTION.
Throwing money at it will not change this. To do what you envision would require a HUGE improvement across MULTIPLE established industries. Don't you think that these individual industries would LOVE to be able to do such things, and haven't already been working for decades to realize such goals?
And this still doesn't address other aspects of having user specific weapons. What if your life depends on picking up your assailants weapon? Or your buddies. Or the guy that just got shot in the street while trying to put down a gunman. There are countless situations that could easily be argued. What about soldiers? The military would never adopt such a weapon platform, how could you keep all of those side arms out of the hands of the civilians when the government orders soooo many guns?
It's just all around impractical. There is no solution, other than to remove guns on a global scale. That's the reality of it.

Since there is no PROBLEM, there is no need for a solution. Taking up all weapons, does nothing. Killing does not require a weapon and anything can be a weapon.

idk doer, while i don't think that guns are the problem as a killer kills, what ever he chooses as his tool is up to the killer, but it's kind of hard to ignore the elephant in the room that is why do so many american's feel that killing others is necessary and human life isn't valued..

We have been desensitized by Hollywood. In real life the gore really isn't there, bullets don't leave huge gaping wounds in people and no one gets shot and gets pushed back 3 feet by the force of the impact. In real combat, someone gets shot and they just fall like a sack of potatoes, most of the time the amount of blood isn't even all that much, it just goes from a person to a skin bag of flesh and bones in a single instant. No explosions, no last minute whispered words, no cries of pain.
The longest war the US has been involved in is still going...the economy for the youth is horrible, very high unemployment pushed people to join the military for the promise of a free college education and a paycheck, but all they really get is the post traumatic stress disorder that eats at their souls day after day until one day they pop and commit suicide.

don't american made films also get viewed outside of the us of a though no drama? of course they do, yet i don't see the so called hollywood effect in other countries, which leads me to believe that's not really the direct cause of increased violence in our country..
same as when people say, oh, it's the video games kids play today that cause them to be so violent, yet, i'd think places like japan also have the same games we have here, yet, again, no where near the same level of violence.
