I may be moving to Colorado

I lost my job here and I'm taking it as a sign from God. :) I'm sick of fighting the high cost of living here and the fact that I've only gotten to go skiing one time this season because we have so little snow. We've been really stressed over leaving because our son was not moving back south with us (can't blame him!). So, we've hatched a plan to move to CO and get into the weed biz and now he is totally jazzed to move with us. I know nothing about the laws or what it will take to get into this. My wife is an amazing southern gourmet certified chef and is very interested in doing medibles. We don't have a lot of money but we've got a little and we have a little bit of income to sustain us and a legit herb and spice business we can work, so we can float along for awhile without money from the biz. We want to get in on the ground floor (like everybody else) but we want to do this right. The plan is for me to go first and find a place. What we have in mind is a place "out of town" - not in Denver or CO Springs. My son will be needing a job and my wife can work the spice biz while I focus on the grow. I would be very thankful for any advice from someone living there. Our lives literally depend on making the right choices; we can't afford to make another mistake.

I've consulted with seven different clients since the new year. All moved here to get into the weed business but they didn't know that they needed to be a resident for two years to be eligible for licensing required to open up shop. Licensed centers can't purchase wholesale from you either. So your stuck working as a budtender or trimmer usually for low wages.

I just had a pm from Joe and he says your a cool dude. If you need tips on laws, law enforcrment, where to get equipment and even help finding a place I'll do what I can. I'm actually starting two pretty large buildouts atm so if I'm slow to reply I'm not blowing you off.

What part of Colorado are you looking at? Rent / buy?

thanks snaps....seriously

everyone needs a friend in a situation like this.

two years to be legal though eh? Doesn't sound bad really. I mean regulations like this will keep all the get rich quick people from moving in.

and during two years a guy can make a lot of contacts.

To be honest I have heard figures of ten an hour for tenders and a good trimmer could work up to the 15 dollar level. Not saying there aren't higher pay spots but there is a lot of competition for these positions (never seems to hurt being a hot chick). A lot of the best positions are yet to come with rec being in play now.

Getting a good pay with your canna chef skills is where to be for now. You can't own a mmc/mip/opc yet but you can get a badge to be employed by one as long as your not a felon and have no drug convictions.

Meanwhile you can grow all your red card allows in your home. You just can't legally sell it to anyone ever. And I do know a dr. ;)

nice! good info.

ten would be tough for anyone but 15 bucks for trimming buds doesn't sound too bad. The twenty dollar figure I heard may have been cali wages come to think of it...I'm pretty sure it was.

I would hire a hot chick...... or two

twins preferably ;) lol

just getting involved in the business on this level would be cool as hell imo. and being legal??? awesome really.

we easterners can only dream :(

well there ya go pp. You've got some pretty good info to start with there I think.

that's pretty cool your wife is as into it as you are and your kid.

a family has to stick together to get through tough times like most of america is facing today. Those that do will have a better chance of coming out ahead.

I'm pulling for you brother.

Potpimp unless ur a godly grower ur not gonna get into the business...sorry to tell you. Im in washington and our state has already taken all applications and everything. Just because its legal people think they can move down here and start in the business. Unless u can grow in mass bulk 3 pounds really I would just go for personal and hookin up the people who actually need weed not for just getting high but pain n shit . And kron has told me ganja goes for up to 4k$ up where u live....if u dont mind me asking what was ur job

Thanks guys!!! I'm an award winning sign professional by trade but have a lot of other skills. I'm a journeyman aircraft sheet metal mechanic; I've worked as a mechanic (repairing LOTS of different things) and a housing maintenance tech doing electrical, plumbing, trim, sheetrock, painting, making screens, woodwork, HVAC, and I'm a good airbrush artist too.

My wife is pretty jazzed about making medibles; maybe she could make them for growers or dispensaries if the law allows. We really want to work within the law; no sense in being greedy or stupid. We do have income and a business so it's not like we are moving there *just* because of the weed situation; there is also the skiing. :) Seriously, I'm really looking forward to doing runs that are OVER 45 seconds, LOL. BTW, I took ski school in Vail.

Snaps we were actually looking at the Pueblo area but we're open to most anywhere that is smaller and more remote. We really hate big cities and want to have a house to ourselves. We're thinking of buying a motor home to start out with so we can find just the perfect place. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the great input!!

My wife and I have wanted to do the same for about 3 years now. We keep having bad timing. Either we can't find a place we can afford, or I can't find a job at that point. The affordable housing is the biggest issue though. Even if I was making 15 an hour I could see paying 1000+ a month in rent. So we are trying to get our selves worked into a position to buy a place when we finally make the move.

Look at property in the city of Pueblo West or further west in Pueblo county. Avoid Pueblo as the houses are old and close together. Pueblo west is much newer housing and bigger lots usually at least an acre. The reservoir is close for summer fun. Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge is about a three hour cruise through beautiful mountains. Denver is about two hours awat. The springs about 45 minutes. Pueblo West has a walmart so a five minute ride and I'm shopping. Pueblo central is like 20 minutes away, everything you need there.
