when i was young i was fortunate enough to be blessed with a lot of teachers who were actual historians. throughout my education my fellow classmates and myself often challenged the accuracy of the historical curriculum in which we were being presented with. now to your question, Christopher Columbus was accredited with the discovery of America if you believe what the text books at that particular time stated. i used him as an example, because, thinking in hindsight that was the first time i can recall being mis educated. i'll try and give you the quick version of history from those text books which were nationally standardized. up until the late 1400's, Europeans believed that the world was flat and if your sailed far enough you would fall off. Columbus set out on this humanity changing expedition to prove the world was round. he sailed as far as he could and ended up in America. thus, discovering this new land and new future for those who were religiously oppressed, he was given his own holiday because of this great achievement. BULLSHIT!!!

how can you discover a country when people are already living there for starters? Columbus actually sailed to the Caribbeans. Amerigo Vespucci made the trip around the middle part of the 1400's hence the name America.......Amerigo. Columbus was actually considered a liar and a thief when he was alive, contradicting the persona that text books portrayed about his character.

i cant disagree with this. but thats why people dont discuss polotics and religion in civilised conversation.because each individual is verry passionate in their own beliefs.So if your posting a politicall thread i just dont believe your looking for "civilised conversation" i think your looking for confrentation.or debate.
