i need to run a cable from the house to the shed in the back garden. obviously i could use a normal extension lead but im just worried incase it rains, dont wanna blow my shed up lol.

also, ill prob only need 2 plugs, lights and fan so i should be ok running off an extension

yer, just some ghetto setup. basicly:

gf doesnt want me growing in the house. i have other ppl round that i dont want to know so in the shed is good.

i just need to get power to it. only a couple of sockets.

so i was thinkin, i could leave the lights on a timer or w/e through out the day whilst im at work then just pack all the extension lead into the shed when the plants need darkness.

but was just abit worried about it raining in the day or something.

its goin to be a pain in the ass bring it in everyday .. try lookin for a color that will blend in to the surroundings so if its goin to be on grass get a green one if you can or better yet turin that shed into a greenhouse !!!!!!!!!

Have you ever seen the electric cables that builders use?

I'm pretty sure that they are water proof.

Something like that.

Try your local hardware store and just ask for a water proof power cable for outdoor use.

yer ill try it. its easier and cheaper than getting electric fitted to the shed. just needs to be on for half a day or so then i can pack it up.

i think ive seen those cables b4. will check it out.

Do you see how much of a pain in the ass this will be? Not to mention the higher risk of something going wrong? As suggested, find some way to make it more permanent, like running it through conduit and burying it. Other wise you will be moving that damn wire every day for at least the next 3 months. But if this one of those sheds that are nice and it looks good, there would be no problem in running a wire out there and even putting a breaker box in. If it looks professional it wont be as suspicious. Just make the proper outside to inside connections. This is not really that difficult.

Who's house is this anyways? Yours, hers, or ours?

err its kinda mine and hers but she stays at her mums ALL the time, shes only round like few hours a day.

its a decent shed, im just not planning on paying 300 quid to put electric to it just for this grow when i can pay a 10er for an extension cable an run it through the window or something.

i dont mind packin the cable up every night after i come home from work just as long as the job gets done.

prolly gonna put some surge protectors on the extension as well.

All the ext cords are waterproof. Its the plugs at the ends that determine waterproof or not. If the ends are inside, your ok (still get a HD outdoor ext cord!)
Keep a drip loop at each end.

Also toss a GFI on it. You can get ext cords with GFI's built in.

Actually, if you are somewhat mechanically inclined you could do almost all the work. Run the wires however it works best and then let an electrician make all the connections for you, it would not be all that bad. I know you have good intentions but what about those days you may not be around or its raining outside and you dont feel like going out to put it away. But then again, why would you bring it in at night? At night would be the least likely time for it to be seen. Or on a Saturday you got the grill going with people hanging out passing the ball and then some one trips over a extension cord running across the lawn.

the sockets are all inside yer. whats a HD cord? a drip loop? also whats a GFI? lol

an rkm i know what ur sayin but every1 is out at work in the day and no1 will see the cable going into the shed, if its in the day then its less likely to leak bits of light.

if i pack it into the shed at night then thats when they can have there darkness.

not many ppl are in the garden (we only go outside on the patio to smoke). plus, saturdays are fine, i can put the light on any time bcoz no1 is round on saturdays as i see my dad then.

basicly, this is my 1st and last grow, i dont want it to be expensive and would just rather do most the things myself if u know what i mean.

i just need electric in that shed for the lighting periods then i can clean it up and no1 is aware if anything going on.

What is your tentative lighting schedule at this point? How will you handle the lights being on with people in the back yard?

my seeds are germing as we speak, i started that yesterday night.

bcoz i can have the 18 hours of light on when i go to work in the morning and turn them off b4 bed.

i see how ur trying to make ur point about cabling and how it looks, but im only gonna veg for 3-4 weeks then flower, so will only be doin 12 hours a day.

hope u understand what i mean.

yer yer, if i can put the timer on to start and stop at a certain time im good. i could just leave the cable running in through the cat flap over night for the 18 hour period.

then just time it and take the plug out at about 7pm and everything should be hidden :)

Will you want ventilation running during lights off?
What type of timer are you getting? Most timers will quit keeping time without electricity, forcing you to reset your timer every day as well.

if i put a timer on the socket in the house - so the extension lead is on a timer.

the extension will probably have at least 2-4 plug sockets so i got my lights on one socket and a fan on another. ill prob just only have the fan on whilst the lights are on....... unless things change ofc.

i havnt thought about it 100% but it all seems to work. i germinated my seeds last night, so i have about a week to get my shit together in that shed.

You have less than that if they germ good. I know mine seem to always pop in less than 24 hours.
