Anyone here have a heater in their garage ?

I need to put one in my two car garage....Walls are not insulated or even drywalled for that matter...The garage does have vinyl siding on it....

Do I want to go with Kerosene or Propane ?

Also, how many BTU's ?

I would like to get that garage fairly warm as I will being bodywork and sometimes painting cars in there too.....

I take it your room is in there?
and with that being said kerosene is petroleum, leaves all kinda nasties in the air so propane would be bttr. also produces co2 I believe. space heater type

Sounds like your 2X4's are exposed?...if so a staple gun and insulation rolls will only take a few hours as well.

doesn't really matter.Propane is a temperary fuel IMO.Propane companies suck.Unless you plan on filling your own bottles, the propane companies will take you to the cleaners.Diesel or Kero is easier to deal with when it comes to a delivery,contracts,etc.....

real men use wood.. build a large bonfire right in the middle of the garage.. dont worry about the ceiling.. it's probably asbestos.. post pics...

yep, start with stair treads, then moldings, chairs, finish with a tire.Use your old skid'd up boxers to start it.Should be warmed up right proper in a short minute

You can get a small woodstove for about $200. Some ducting and bam. The only future cost is if you ever have to purchase wood (don't forget to clean it). Lots of places throw pallets out next to the road for anyone driving by to take.

pallets are such a biotch-nails,nails,nails.Around here the spruce is loaded with(I don't even wanna type it) spider mites and other pests.BVesides you'd have to marry the woodstove to keep an uninsulated garage warmed up.Fuel, just light it up and carry on about your business.
I had no idea how good the wood is back east until I moved north.I could sell a cord of good hardwood for 1000 bucks easy here. And it wouldn't be hard to do

you know more folks really need to add more tire to their cookouts I have been doing this and really enjoy it.... they light and stay lit for a long ass time saving on BBQ brickettes or gas... and the flavor.. THE FLAVOR!! I kinda like having the tire particles fall back down onto what ever I am cooking kinda leaving a crunchy glaze over the food..

way too much.. here is the cheaper vers..

start asking on Craigslist for free metal coffee tins.. once you have about 20-30 cut them apart.. then weld this material to form a small wide drum.. about 3x3. make a lid for this.. cut a hole in the side of this drum weld other coffee tins to form your duct work.. but dont vent it outside.. this is a total misconception you can reuse this exhaust make a small cooking stove at the top.. it will slow cook at about 150.. higher temps with better grade tires..

they also make tire chunks.. sold as "rubber mulch" in the gardening section at lowes?

in place of the wooden pellets..
Pellets are so much cheaper though, I can get 4000lbs of pellets for $236, that is including the cost of delivery to my property.

yes 2 x 4s are exposed....Problem is I am renting the house and garage...I don't want to spend my own money on insulation..

I will not be growing in here.....

with wood burners or pellet stoves, do you need a permit to install them generally ?

I didn't need a permit, though I also own my house/land.

Not sure if you'd need one where you live, but with renting it's probable.
