yes 2 x 4s are exposed....Problem is I am renting the house and garage...I don't want to spend my own money on insulation..

I will not be growing in here.....

with wood burners or pellet stoves, do you need a permit to install them generally ?

It depends on where you live ??

wood / pellet / coal stove can be found cheap but the venting / ducting is where the cost will add up , even if their is no codes on it where you live you will need to use double wall B venting (at least) and its not cheap , Besides if you rent the land lord will likely not approve

I use one of these, I like it, it's fast. Just remember to turn off all flames before painting. :bigjoint:

These heaters work well but if your around them for extended periods of time they may make you sick , They give me headaches, other people get nautious

Natural Kero can have simmilar problems for non vented type heaters ( the cheap ones), The synethedic kero is great stuff almost no odour , but its expensive

I see that unit they make throws off 21,000 btu's per hour.....Would that heat an ice cold 2-car garage ? And if so, how long would it take to get to like 70 degrees ?

A quick google says 21000 btu should heat 600 square foot , but without inslation , Id quess thats more like 300,

Not to mention USED oil will not have a definate btu valvue

also rember when calculating Heating BTU's you should always oversize , If the heater is constantly running it will have a very short life

I dont know why my posted links wont link --

but google BTU calculator , you will find excelent info

height is probably about 8' but then you have the trusses and roof on that....Top of roof might be about 4' or so above that dead center.....then roof angles down towards the sides.....

So that's roughly around 7500 cubic feet I'd say.
