Your kids sound amazing individuals, my daughter is a bit like that she's very protective and as you say it can be annoying but at least they love us. And what you and your wife eat sounds good to me I've never been a big meat eater, cheese and bread is my poison.
It sounds like our tastes in food are alot alike , we routinely make meals based around a good cheese & hearty bread ,sometimes the 2 end up being our entire meal .

My wife is Lebanese & grew up eating traditional foods , most without red meat & she taught me how to prepare easy foods that are healthy , i do 90% of the cooking now that she's not able most days.

Last night she was able to cook so we had a special meal ,she roasted white asparagus with a killer lemon sauce she whipped up , a cherry tomato & blue cheese salad with a fried type pita bread & it was a heavy meal .

Tonight im gonna roast some sweet yellow bell peppers & stuff them with blue cheese, anchovies & rice so we can use up the bread left over from last night with some home made humus my wife showed me how to make .

It is nice having protective children even though they can be a pain in the ass , were more like 3 best friends acting silly rather than father & sons when were together ,

Oh btw , whats your favorite cheese ? We prefer the white stinky cheeses vs yellow sweet cheese .

I love all cheese but my favorites are blue cheese, goats cheese, Brie and cheese that has cranberries in it that's usually what we call Cheshire cheese. The stuffed peppers sound amazing what rice do you use for that? and tell me how you do it. The asparagus meal your wife cooked is just the kind of meal I love, I wish I could come for dinner you have made me hungry lol And your right about the kids they are like friends really and very good company, is your wife not well if you don't mind me asking.

@TripleMindedGee5150 : Your earlier post made me emotional. Parents can leave us with so much baggage; even if it's unintentional. Carry on and raise your child. Focus on being the best dad you can. Sure you'll make mistakes, but if your heart's in the right place you can sleep each night knowing you gave it your all. Don't let your dad rob you of your future by being angry about the past. It's not worth it. HUGS

@oldtimer54 : I can only hope to have an experience like yours one day.

@tytheguy111 : please, DO wait to have kids until you're at least 30 LOL

Thank you. Funny I tell people "I had both parents in my life and they didn't show me shit "

Its been hard. I wanted my dad to see what a real father was by me showing him. But he up and went and had a heart attack. And the kids he had are MY son's age.. Weird ass shit. Like a Latino soap opera.

Now my moms (god bless her soul) has a 42 yr old boyfriend. I think my parents weren't really meant to be parents.

But on a happy note apparently I can't beat my son at football either. I lost 1 Milillion to 5. @Hookabelly

is your wife not well if you don't mind me asking.
I dont mind speaking of my wife's disease , she has the most severe form of Multiple Sclerosis , arthritis & bone density disorder.

When 1st diagnosed after she collapsed doctors told us she'd need help , she didnt want a nurse so i took classes to learn how to give her physical therapy then put in my paperwork & retired to take care of her , no i shouldn't say to take care of her more like to make sure she's safe ,comfortable & not mistreated or neglected .

She does for herself most days but every so often needs a little help .

Thankfully she's been stable & even getting better in some areas .

Panhead, as far as the original post goes, I had the opposite as a kid. When I was 19 my mom had just got home from the University and was sitting down to grade papers and have a glass of wine. She realized she was out and said, "Hey can you go get me a bottle of wine?"

I blinked, "Mom, I can't."
Her, "Why the hell not?"
Me, "It could be because I'm 19, just a guess though."
Her, "Well damn it, get older I need you to be able to do that."

Now.... if I could just come out of the weed closet to her. You would think that my corkscrew spine would be enough but she's still stuck in the 80's damn it.

I'm sure hope in about 12 years I'll be sending mine to the dispensary to grab me a zip and be told, "Dad but I'm only 16."

The stuffed peppers sound amazing what rice do you use for that? and tell me how you do it
I took the peppers & blackened them on the stove , peeled off the waxy skin then stuffed .

My wife's a rice snob so no cheap rice in our pantry , i used Jasmine Rice for the stuffing & soaked the rice in a beef stock before par boiling the rice just to add more layers of flavor , i filled the peppers about 70% with rice & added a little stock , then over stuffed with the blue cheese & finished them off with a single anchovie on top.

I put them in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes to let the rice fluff up & absorb the stock then finished them off in the broiler just long enough to get a very light browning of the cheese .

I served the peppers with the left over fried bread we had with a little fresh Parmesan garnishing butter on the side .

To kinda even things out where all the tastes of the meal weren't strong i made a tapioca pudding topped with a little candied lemon zest for desert .

Im stuffed & the wife is fast asleep with me right behind her .

Oh how awful for her and how lucky she has you to be their should she need you, I to have arthritis and extreme bone pain from cancer treatment and some days are worst than others, but I pretty much manage to carry on doing what I need to although there are days where I struggle a little but hey ho I'm still breathing so that accounts for a lot.
Please share some more of the lovely food you have including cheese.:P

Im getting alot better these last 4 years , mainly from watching a few cooking shows with my wife on PBS tv & with her telling me how to do stuff ,it also helps to have a fantastic store/deli right down the road that sells shit u could never find at a supermarket .
