gpw doesn't mean much unless you're running clones of a known producer to get the number up imo. I run 800w of COBs and average around 1 gpw in a perpetual ~3.5x8 config. But I'm running multiple strains and a mix of clones/seeds so I'm happy with that. If I were going for bigger for yields I'd be running my best producers, 5gal containers and vegging them longer, like 3-4 weeks out of party cups. Lately I've been running mainly seeds in either 3gal or 2gal this current run and expect to be below 1 gpw, means shit but it is what it is.

10x 2gal, 3 strains from seed in ~3x8', pic was week 6. About a pound ;)

Yep me too! I just took these pics at week 6.5 of a strain I have not grown before, with water I am pulling from the lake for the first time in my hydro setup, and a new nutrient (MegaCrop) I switched to at week 4 of flower that I never used before, and first time LED with the QB. A lot of variables changing for me but they look like they might turn out ok. More killer than LP smoke because they have zero spray. I like to experiment too like you can see lol. I would like to start a breeding program at some point too. That is not something I know too much about yet, but I have a couple books on the subject.

Grams per watt is the standard. What good is growing 45.5 grams per square foot if it took you twice as much electricity to do it? See what I'm saying? It's about efficiency. If i can grow the exact same quantity and quality or better with half the light and electricity who is the better grower? BTW with your math in Hotkarls space it works out to the exact yield he managed to produce this round. Just sayin........ Whats your best yield off a 1K light? Simply curious.

Here's my take on this. Now if you use Karl as example at 1100w using a 4x8 space or 32sqft and hit 3.25lbs vs If you average 2lbs per 1k hps and use 2 of them to cover 4x8/32sqft that's 4lbs at 2000w. Id rather run 900 extra watts which is $55 extra overall where i live and have 12 more ounces.

I know Grams per watt is the standard but I'm limited in space so I'm more interested in Grams per Square foot because of my space limitations. I've never used a 1k light too much heat. I would have to run extra AC
I'm currently using 400W of cxb3590 cobs in my flower tent. Just a 2x4 but I yield north of 13 oz. Just under a gram per/w
My veg tents use Gen 1 and Gen2 bridgelux strips. I run them quite soft. I have one veg tent with 33 one foot light strips at 185w
I'm limited in space and and to a small extent the amount of power available.
I use far reds to initiate flower faster too.
Does AC factor into GPW?

Where I live the communist Ontario uses my medium density to charge me more. A lot more. I save 100$ per month using LED. That I got the same yield as HID took me by surprise. WOW. Amazing..like 1.1kw same yield as 2.2kw HID LOL ya right. But, yeah actually, right.

what if you were hitting 4lbs or more per 2k of hid would you changed over to LED then, thats my predicament

Flawed logic, still doesn't add up, sorry. That's why its done on a gram per watt. If Karl bumped up to 2k that's 7lbs to your 4 in a 4X8. He's still yielding 3.25 per 1k..You stated you'd expect 2lbs per 1k and run 2k, for a total of 4lbs. Plus the quantum boards would run cooler and you'd actually spend less money on electricity and end up getting 3lbs more.

Have you ever ran quantums? 2000w of quantums in a 4x8 tent I'd like to see it.

Ive only done a couple of runs and my first run was trying to maximise my little set up, in saying that I used seeds and two strains.

600w MH/HPS, 3.5 x 4 foot scrog. Mix of two strains over 4 plants. Pulled just over a pound of dried and cured bud. Only just over but I was pretty happy with that. Especially for a first run and I did have some wasted space on the net.
No a/c, no heater, no co2.

Can you post a link to the QB's that your using? I'm pretty old school and like to stick with what I know works and for me it's the SE 600w. However, the savings on your hydro bill does intrigue me. I've tried to follow the conversion of a 2x600w HPS setup in a 5x7 to an equivalent LED setup but i can't really find it or understand it. Thanks!
