yet another question

my girl is just starting second week of flower. And the roots are exposed at the top. I need to add more soil to cover those roots. So my question is what kind of soil should i top with??she was planted in ocean Farmbut I don't know if this far into the grRO if I should use it this late in her life. I'm going to the nursery to see if they have a compost of bat guano and worm casting if so I plan on buying that and just top the pot with it.although I'm pretty sure that's the main ingredients in the ocean soil. I need about one more inch of soil on the top,maybe two. any opinions?? Iwould love to hear them. Thanks

I grow outdoors in soil and have to do this often. I just use any soil lying around as long as it is VERY light and airy. Soil added can cake up and block air.

So I can use soil from other pots and maybe mix it with pearlite.. I also have seedling soil which is very airy.. could I use that??

I have some plants outside, and also have had to add to them.

I wouldn't worry too much about what it is, just use some extra planting medium you have around, mound it up around the stem, but not too high.

My understanding as in all growing, you want to keep the roots that make there way up covered, so they don't risk drying out, or getting sick and passing it on to the rest of the plant.

I have also Read that creating a mound up around the stem,( so higher then the rest of the soil) will help promote a nice strong root system.

Be careful top dressing with guano, some brands are pretty strong on N. Some worm castings and a layer of pine bark will work well. I've got plenty of roots that have come up to the top and my layer of pine bark keeps them from drying out.

i would go with the perlite/soil rather than seedling soil which may seem airy but i have found it to cake very bad sometimes. Go with your gut though.

i wouldnt worry about it tbh. It always happens to me mid flower and I have never topped up the soil.. happens in nature too..plants don't care that much as long as the rootzone is healthy
