They are tired of some of the constant nonsense from tourists. Think about it.... we all go there for a few days or weeks. They wake up in Adam 365 days of the year with nonstop tourists. They don't want to be the drug party town of Europe anymore. I can hardly blame them. If you lived there.... you'd feel the same way after awhile.
The Dutch are very pragmatic ppl and I respect the heck out of them.
Besides, I know some locals well..... I'll get my card. :peace:

"In the Netherlands, the national drug policy officially has (and has always had) 4 major objectives:
  • To prevent drug use and to treat and rehabilitate drug users.
  • To reduce harm to users.
  • To diminish public nuisance by drug users (the disturbance of public order and safety in the neighborhood).
  • To combat the production and trafficking of drugs."
And the objectives/agenda under proposed legalization in the US are basically the same.

Progressive thinking doesn't necessarily equate to more personal freedoms.

These elitists actually think they know better what's right for you, more than you do, and in their great wisdom their charge is to protect you from yourself.

Maybe they dont like being the 'drug party town' if this is the case then it should be on the cards to get rid of the red lights as most of the drugs are around there, also i dont se how they could be sick of the cannabis consumption as it dosent seem to disrupt much compared to the cocaine/alcohol filled city it will be if this goes through,

i heard a proposal recently aswell that they want coffeeshops within a certain radius of schools shut down, maybe if they developed this idea more ie, shutting down coffeeshops close to museums etc.. idk all i know is the dutch government make a ball of money from the tourism cannabis brings to there country so i think this proposal will either take another few years to pass or it will not.bongsmilie

It's actually one of my favorite places to visit. I actually enjoy Dutch food immensly. My wife loves to antique shop there, and I know I can always duck into a corner cafe , have some soup and a bier (weird combo?) and wait for her. Weed of course is always near by.

They have done alot to relocate prostitution in Adam and I don't know if you've been, but heck you could walk to Singel and get a morning gal before she slipped off to her real job. They stopped all that.

I would think looking at the economies of Europe, and geography.... Iceland may just pick up the weed baton. That place knows how to party already, and they need CASH badly.

It's just a guess tho.... but an island may just be the answer. Oh the snow bunnies of Iceland. if I wasn't married..... I'd be over there all the time.

wud be a good thing for them to pick up the baton i recon but i still cant see the dutch passing this unless there hand is forced by the EU

The EU is hardly the place to look to for individual freedom..... it represents the exact opposite.

Politicians love to use opposites.

VAT ... VALUE added Tax ... sounds wonderful. What a value.... for them, not you...

Eh the dutch government are a bunch of idiots that apparently don't like to make tourist money. The only reason why people go to that shit whole country is for Weed and whores. In any case, I hear this "Law" won't affect Amsterdam. Also from what I've heard a law like this is announced just about every fucking year and guess what...most of the time it doesn't pass or is overturned. Most dutch folk think it's silly tourist fears of loosing their pot and whore heaven. If they aren't worrying about it you shouldn't either.

It is funny that you put it like that. I know it is a cute city; they have art, architecture, and a lot of history. But I don't know anyone that has gone there strictly for those reasons.

100% of people that I know that have been there went for cannabis
50% of those went for cannabis and prostitutes
0% went for the art, architecture, history. They just happened to be perks of the place where they could get high and bust their nut without fear of prosecution.

These guys would have gone to Darfur if it were legal there. Amsterdam has to stop kidding itself why people go there - it's not cause it is a cute city - it's the pot and whores. Their economy will crumble without pot and whores.
