A group of Republican state lawmakers is backing legislation that would require teachers to limit their speech to words that comply with Federal Communications Commission regulations on what can be said on TV or radio. This doesn't just apply to language they use in school but in the general public as well.


Now tell me again which party is limiting constitutional rights? Smaller less intrusive government? What the fuck is going on in AZ anyway?

i heard the republicans in az are also going after the recall laws, now that they are being recalled and whatnot for asshattery.

PHOENIX (AP) -A group of Republican lawmakers are backing a bill that would require Arizona teachers to limit their classroom speech to words that comply with Federal Communications Commission regulations on what can be said on TV or radio.
That means no cussing in class or using other gross language.
The Arizona Republic reports the bill establishes penalties for anyone teaching in a public school who violate the FCC standards. Penalties range from a one-week suspension for a first offense to being fired for a third offense.
Sen. Lori Klein says the bill stems from complaints about teachers in local high schools using inappropriate language in front of students.

It discusses "classroom" speech, not speech outside of the classroom. Now, there are only about 7 words that are not able to be used on TV. So, what you are saying is that a teacher should be able to swear their asses off inside a classroom with impunity eh?

Show me an article where it says they are trying to sanction teachers speech outside of the classroom and you may have an issue I would agree with.

Not Republicans, never was...except Ron Paul..hardly counts though...

But yeah thats just fucking stupid...nobody is going to obey that lol...FCC rules is like you can say shit but you can't say snittzle and you can say fuck but you can't say fucked, they don't make any sense, don't think anyone could keep up with it the radio and tv people get bleeped all the time and its their job to know the rules.

It isnt regulated on a federal level. They are just using the FCC guidelines. It is being regulated by the state as demonstrated by the words...

your seriously defending this? No they shouldn't be able "swear their asses off inside a classroom" but that is not the governments jobs to try to enforce that, its their bosses job, and the FCC list is fucking stupid. I could of said everything I wrote here and added fuckity fuck fuck after each line and it wouldn't count. You see this is the problem with public school we expect the government to teach our kids and take care of us, impractical nonsensical garbage across the board here. The government can't protect us and and take care of us properly nor can it educate us properly, when will people get that? The government fucking sucks.

the bill is so ineptly drafted that it could intrude deeply into teacher&#8217;s private lives. SB 1467 doesn&#8217;t just ban public speech or conduct, but all speech and conduct. That means public school teachers in Arizona will be forbidden from engaging in any FCC-regulated activities no matter where they are.

If you are going to quote something would you please at least source it? That could be from the onion....

The summary of the bill and the article I pulled up says "classroom" speech. And if the bill were so poorly written and a teacher got sanctioned for saying something outside of school the courts would overturn it so quick the first amendment would spin.

What I have stated and what my point is... Teachers, hired by a school district have to follow the rules that are agreed upon. Many of them revolve around what they can say and not say when they are in class. ER: teachers are not supposed to express political views, etc as part of their classroom speech. I seriously dont have a problem with them not being able to swear. I dont have a problem with it because they are employees doing their job.
